SuperPark Thailand activity center at Icon Siam shuts permanently - members want their money back

Closed for good

Picture: Daily News

Icon Siam announced that "SuperPark Thailand" - an activity center in their landmark Bangkok shopping mall - had closed permanently.

A tersely worded announcement in Thai and English indicated that Icon Siam had nothing to do with the company

The membership should go directly to SuperPark Thailand for information. A phone number was supplied.

Daily News reported that many members wanted their money back.

Online information describes the center thus: "SuperPark, the friendliest all-in-one indoor activity park in the world from Finland, is about to bring a big burst of energy into Thailand's entertainment scene".

Now it appears to have permanently shut its doors.

If the company that owns the SuperPark has gone bankrupt, members are now unsecured creditors.  The bottom of the pile.

From the article it is not clear if Finland ran the SuperPark, well a 49% share or if the operators ran the park under some form of license.  Either way not good news for the members.

Well, they have two hopes, and Bob has passed away.

Depending on the situation there is a third choice members or someone else could buy it from bankruptcy

Bit of a stretch don't you think?    The Superpark was not for tourists, it was for Thais.  I took my kids there a few weeks ago and it was very impressive and the investment must have been massive - in the millions of dollars.  But it was expensive.  Too expensive for your average Thai family and therefore doomed to fail.  An unfortunate failure as it was a cool place.

So it was built for Thais but priced them out in favour of tourists... when the cash cow left it crumbled.

My post stands, the house of cards is falling, not a stretch of the imagination, a reality as you can plainly see.

Once the news came out with how much they owing, how many branches throughout Asia, and the stupid owner refusing to assist the franchisees, it's all tumbling down.

The branch in Suntec Singapore was forcibly taken by the landlord 2 weeks back with a loss of 1.8M SGD.

Let's see how the other branches fare.
