WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who has not acknowledged Joe Biden as president-elect, said on Tuesday he does not expect an interrupted transition from the administration of Republican President Donald Trump, who is challenging Biden's election victory in the courts.

"I don't think we're going to have an interrupted transition to whoever is the next administration," the Republican McConnell told reporters.

"I think we ought to quit all the hand-wringing and not act like this is extraordinary. We're going to get through this period and we'll swear in the winner on January 20th, 2021, just like we have every four years since 1793."

McConnell also brushed off a question about whether he was indulging Trump by allowing the president to air charges of election fraud without offering evidence, saying he would let the presidential election go through "the various stages that it goes through under the Constitution."

"There will be, apparently, litigation. Those cases will be decided. And then the Electoral College will meet. And then we'll have the inauguration. But I am going to concentrate on what we are trying to do here in the remainder of this Congress," McConnell said.

Oh they are - a coup within the electoral college. I think the idea is to prevent certain States from certifying their results before the electoral college meets , so that the Governors can instruct their delegates how to vote.

Our nation needs to move on. Today is the day Obama met with Trump to congratulate him on the win and welcome him to the White House.

Time for loser Trump to do the same. We're looking like fools to the world.

You have not been looking like fools to the world. You have been fools and the laughing stock of the rest of the civilized world for the last four years. Right now it is not America being the laughing stock of the world but the absolute moron holed up in the WH acting like a juvenile kid that needs it backside slapped.

However that does not change the deeper problems America has both politically and socially. If Americans think they are the greatest country in the world then the lot of you need counselling.

There's certainly a lot of accusations and character assassinations flying around on Twitter etc. about certain polls and poll officials from various political activists and commentators.  No idea about the veracity but Twitter aren't taking them down or marking them with warnings. It will all come out in the wash no doubt.

Seriously, maybe this was bound to happen as a reaction to the Democrats previous cooked up conspiracy theories given that a very sizeable % of the electorate that still support Trump. He'll do anything to keep the attention he craves. Biden will need all his 47 years political nous to calm things down and diffuse everything.

This trend is not just unique to the US. All over the world, politicians in countries are now contesting election results they don't like. Something strange going on.

It's not beyond the bounds of possibility that Trump could try and form a new party to consolidate his base and destroy the Republican party. He wouldn't care if he caused mayhem. It's his trademark.

One can only hope.
