The government has to many master minds, what all the government people should do is get together and talk to each other, and tell each other what they have in mind, maybe that could cut down on clown making ideas

Very hopeful of you, or should that be generous?

And how many members of the senate and the rest of the government have ever worked in a business?

All of them !
They all have some fancy position is a board so they can get some "compensation" for their business promotion on inside trades.

When the Citizens and Residents can enjoy E Commerce, E-Trade, E-Business, and E-Government..... The Laws and  Regulations will become Transparent.

Until then.... Smoke and Mirrors Rule!

I've heard this BS every 2 or3 years or so since the 1970s. The reality is, of course, that they have no intention to change anything. Life is so sweet for the elite just as things are.

No Bank guarantees. High Baht. 49% ownership. Lack of English-speakers. A written language only Thais can understand. Too much paperwork. Too much duplication. Poor education standards. Crime. Drugs. Corruption of police and many public employees . . .

Could go on forever!  But hey-ho, the Thai officials know best!

You can't do business in Thailand without engaging in corruption, that is big problem for many companies all over the world trying to do business in Thailand, because any under the table money paid in Thailand could easily end them in jail in their home country.

Nobody from Rolls Royce went to jail in England

Meh....

It's not about 51/49

It's about ease of doing business as it is about finding competent Thai staff.

My wife tells me only Thai Engineers are worth their salt. The rest are incompetent and lazy.... most likely both.

Just yesterday wifey read me a Thai article about Vietnam obliterating Thailand in just about every aspect of business. She is concerned as the has been a sales manager for 10 years in a Japanese company that if you know their culture don't promote females, let alone females that aren't Japanese. So she knows what she is talking about as she is very very good at her job. She thinks there is no future in Thailand and in 5 years she will be redundant. All the companies you mentioned in your post she has very close relations with and knows all the rumors first hand.

Do you?

I don't disagree.  In my own business (oil and gas) Thailand has made it more and more difficult to get foreign workers into the country.

I'm only trying to dispel the falsehood that you have to "give away" 51% of any business to a Thai.  If that were true, it would be a non starter.  But that's only an excuse for people who don't even want to try.

BTW, we had a lot of excellent Thai engineers and tradesmen.  A little lacking on experience because they didn't get to see how things are done all over the world.  But excellent people.

Read the heading and the first line "The government has made improving the business environment in Thailand a key policy by setting a goal to raise the ranking of the ease of doing business to be among the top 20 countries in the world"

They understand that things are not easy, they have come out and admitted it and have set a goal to improve it. All you guys do is continue complain about 49%, visas, work permits etc etc. That's what they are trying to improve. Why don't you say "that's a really good idea"?

Most of you complaining have never run a business in Thailand. Probably never even run a business anywhere else either.

The government has set an ambitious target for itself – making Thailand one of the top 10 countries in the world for ease of doing business in the next two years, said Deputy PM Supattanapong Punmeechaow, who doubles as energy minister.

Thailand was ranked 21 in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business 2020 list of 190 countries surveyed.

Thailand was also ranked 30 for the 2020 world best destination to reside.  They drop from 21 (I think) in 2019.  That’s a big drop. Don’t know what ambitious target  anyone could imagine to crease the Land of Smiles from continuously  sinking.........????????????????

Deputy PM Supattanapong Punmeechaow

The government has set an ambitious target for itself – making Thailand one of the top 10 countries in the world for ease of doing business in the next two years, said Deputy PM Supattanapong Punmeechaow, who doubles as energy minister.

Thailand was ranked 21 in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business 2020 list of 190 countries surveyed.

He added that Thailand is ready on all aspects, especially logistics infrastructure, in order to achieve this goal.

Phongsaward Guyaroonsuith, director-general of the Strategic Transformation Office, said the office aims to complete 85 per cent of laws related to doing business within the next year to help boost the country’s ranking.

Nattapon Dejvitak, Loxley's executive vice president, said the private sector is working with the government to develop a trade platform to help cut related costs for business operators in import-export transactions.

The platform, which will be linked up with 37 related state agencies, will go on trial in the first quarter of next year, before going into full use later in the year. This will help save between Bt4 billion and Bt5 billion per year on the cost of import-export documentation and related labour costs.

Not only in business, but also been happening with tourism, particularly western tourism, for the last few years.

Before covid, tourism up 32% on the same time last year.

Thailand is still stuck in its old ways, thinking they are the only option in South East Asia.  Same old scams, rip offs, visa issues, over charging, extortion, violence towards tourists, theft, robbery etc.

They now have to compete for the tourist dollar, but are showing they have no idea how to.
