BANGKOK (NNT) - The government has made improving the business environment in Thailand a key policy by setting a goal to raise the ranking of the ease of doing business to be among the top 20 countries in the world. The public and private Sectors today organized a platform to achieve the goal.

The Office of the Public Sector Development Commission (OPDC), responsible for driving and monitoring the ease of doing business related reforms and strengthening the competitive environment, is hosting a briefing session on “Status and Progress of Thailand’s Ease of Doing Business Reforms.” Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam and Deputy Prime Minister Supattanapong Punmeechaow participated in the event.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Supattanapong Punmeechaow presided over the opening ceremony and gave the opening remarks.

He said Thailand is ready for Ease of Doing Business Reforms. Thai government has prepared infrastructure for the past 5 years, including the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), transportation and technology infrastructure. The government also works hard to prevent the spread of COVID-19, that affects all of the business sector. Now, Thailand is ranked 21st in the World Bank’s Global Ease of Doing Business Index.

Thailand is in the progress of responding to the World Bank’s advice and the “Ten for Ten” proposal by five ambassadors to Thailand.

Ten steps for Thailand to crack the Top Ten in the World Bank’s Global Ease of Doing Business Index are as follows: Simplify and Digitize Cross-Border Clearance, Simple and Smart Licensing, Increase Availability of E-Government, Simplify BOI Applications, Account-Based Customs Processing, Pivot to Digital Commerce, Simplify Access for Skilled Labor, Prioritize Transparency, Improve Bankruptcy Processes and Increase Digitization of Health Thai FDA Approvals.

Deputy PM Supattanapong Punmeechaow

The government has set an ambitious target for itself – making Thailand one of the top 10 countries in the world for ease of doing business in the next two years, said Deputy PM Supattanapong Punmeechaow, who doubles as energy minister.

Thailand was ranked 21 in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business 2020 list of 190 countries surveyed.

He added that Thailand is ready on all aspects, especially logistics infrastructure, in order to achieve this goal.

Phongsaward Guyaroonsuith, director-general of the Strategic Transformation Office, said the office aims to complete 85 per cent of laws related to doing business within the next year to help boost the country’s ranking.

Nattapon Dejvitak, Loxley's executive vice president, said the private sector is working with the government to develop a trade platform to help cut related costs for business operators in import-export transactions.

The platform, which will be linked up with 37 related state agencies, will go on trial in the first quarter of next year, before going into full use later in the year. This will help save between Bt4 billion and Bt5 billion per year on the cost of import-export documentation and related labour costs.

Invest 100% of the capital in a thai company and then you may own it for a maximum of 49%. ????

well done Thailand going backwards

how many have been killed on the roads this year ??????

and which esteemed appointed minister is responsible - oh yes that's right - Mr Prawit

in any other country he would have been sacked a long time ago for turning up

Hope is what keeps us all going..

Aim for the moon and .... do nothing...

result: aim for the moon again!!!

Just think of the opportunities Thailand has lost over the last 20 years...........? with their stupid rules I know people who have tried and in the end just gave up and moved elsewhere, one of them moved to Malaysia

This new "ease of doing business" is bound to entail some additional forms that have to be filled in, signed, dated and copied.

He looks like he's already laughing at this idea

Yes I got my morning dose of laughs too!

The government has to many master minds, what all the government people should do is get together and talk to each other, and tell each other what they have in mind, maybe that could cut down on clown making ideas

in 2 years i want to be a millionaire.
in 2 years i want to fly to the moon....

Creating many more forms no doubt all asking for the same information......name, dob, address, passport number. Then they ask for 4 copies of each. Why don't they make one form that asks for all the information once and stick the information into a computer or better still type it directly into a computer.

No hope for the country ! People in gov who talk nonsense and havent a clue how to revive the country

And in 2 years pigs will fly at the speed of sound

In a way all of them.

Taking payments under table so that the businesses can operate... I guess you could call it corruption business.

might  have trouble  unless baht  weakens

What a joke. Once again Thai officials show how completely out of touch with reality they really are.
