What a stupid statement! What has this outbreak got to do with tourists? Doing guided tourist tours of the fish processing plants are they? Infected tourists are being weeded out by quarantine. And how many times do I have to repeat it: 'That is exactly what quarantine is for!' That is it's purpose and it is working. As long as you have quarantine there is no need to worry about tourists. Harry Fingerling
90% asymptomatic out of just 516 infected seems a little too high in my estimation. Maybe if they tested the cheap labour on arrival things probably would be so bad. Just how many other people have gone there to buy for their businesses from many provinces is the breeding ground for a full on second wave.

Assuming all protocols of the emergency decree are being followed to the letter, ie masks/social distancing, names recorded at each facility etc etc. Not forgetting that borders have been closed since March/April, then anyone coming in are going straight to quarantine and tested. Or, heaven forbid the thought of migrant labour either sneaking in and being employed illegally without correct documentation, or being allowed in at the borders for a fee and fast-tracked to slave labour camps then someone is about to get rollicking.

How did the first foreign worker (who must have been in Thailand since March) get the virus? Obviously, no surprise that 50% of the migrant workers tested positive based on dense living conditions ( same situation in Singapore). The virus existed in Thailand the whole time- but asymptomatic people were not tested in large numbers. Now they found 90% of the cases to be without symptoms. Quite a lot of Thai people - especially in some parts of Bangkok - also live in dense living conditions, but they never seem to spread the virus, or most probably have been rarely tested for it.

The Oxford/AZ vaccine will be approved before year end. Moderna is selling for a profit. Moderna is only approved in the USA. Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine is selling for a profit. Is approved in a few countries and in use in UK and USA. Oxford/AZ vaccine is NON profit. UK will again be the world leader and all being well will approve late December and use from January onwards. Does not matter which one Thailand purchased as NONE will be delivered in Asia until 2021 of any sort. EU/USA and other "big economies" have purchased all the initial production runs. 1 1

The masks have to filter out these larger particles in order to prevent virus infection. I agree properly wearing a quality mask is the key. And more importantly how you take said mask off without instantly transferring filtered droplets onto your hands. Also be very aware that press buttons on ATM's, lifts and any ticket machines are good transmission points, more so with the latest variant of Covid. Bkktodd
14 hours ago, asiacurious said: These posts (and many others in various threads these months) hint at the same general thing - that Thailand does not test in order to keep cases hidden/unreported. There is a problem with this line of thought. Some of those hidden people with Covid will be sick enough to require hospitalization. And if you don't test them once they're in the hospital, you're going to end up with a lot of other sick people (both in and out of the hospital). Not testing sick people won't keep the hospital beds from filling up as more and more people get sick. Furthermore, whether or not the government tests people can be discerned based on what happened up north a few weeks ago when people who came across the border showed up at hospitals with symptoms.... They were tested, their contacts were traced and tested, and all of this was made public. Hundreds of people were tested, most were negative. Why test these people but not all those others the government doesn't test to hide the numbers? What's so special about them? And now we see this same thing in Samut Sakhon. A woman went to the hospital with symptoms and she was tested. What's special about her? Why test her, why report on her positive result? Why didn't they not test her so they could hide her case too? Why test her family and others who worked at the market? IF the government was trying to hide the true number of people with Covid by not testing, then why test anyone, ever? Simple answer. They were tested because they had symptoms and went to the hospital. Period. Why lock down Samut Sakhon now? If the virus is already all over the place (but hidden because the government does not test!) then what's the point of locking down. Oh, wait.... To keep the ruse going? Sinple also. Many have no symptoms are are positive with COVID. Thailand has created a false sense of security. Covid free. Think again

xtrnuno41
So those migrant workers did have a 14 day quarantaine, all by Thai rules. They have a working permit after the quarantaine. Or not? Thai broke their own rules? Like New Zealand did once. Well in the UK they find a mutant virus of covid 19 working now and it is 70% more effective in spreading. So this one is really highly contagious, we start all over again. They dont know yet if this one is even more dangerous, they say. But ok happy days will continu with the new virus.
