Super Poll ranks PM 1st in tackling national issues

BANGKOK (NNT) - A Super Poll research center survey has named the Prime Minister the best in the Cabinet for addressing national issues.

 

The poll questioned 1,206 people between December 20 and 24 about their perceptions of the government’s handling of different issues. Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha received most votes at 29.4 percent for his ability to lead and resolve major issues, with highlights of his work including the construction of various train lines, handling of the onset of COVID-19, the co-pay scheme and economic stimulus measures.

 

Behind the PM with 24.9 percent of votes is Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health Anutin Chanvirakul, who was noted for addressing the COVID-19 pandemic, management of medical teams and making good on his campaign promise to legalize marijuana.

 

Receiving 23.5 percent of the vote was Minister of a Digital Economy and Society Puttipong Punnakanta, for his development of digital systems in response to COVID-19, creation of Thai Chana and counteraction against lese majeste.

 

Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan received 22.6 percent of votes for his work on informal debt and daily living costs. He was tied with Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment Warawut Silapa-acha, praised for his work on animal conservation and action against illegal destruction of the environment.

 

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Jurin Laksanawisit was given 22.3 percent of the vote for his aid to farmers hit by dropping crop prices and his support of exports and cheaper goods.

There are 1700 Generals in the Thai army(one for every 212 troops). So I suppose they could have questioned a few more in that poll.

145.3% of 1,206 people = 1752.3 people

No doubt an army sponsored poll. Prayuth is despised, distrusted, and he has  dishonored himself, like never before. And if he is #1, it is only due to an absolute bottom of the barrel administration, by comparison.

I suspect they misinterpreted that "super poll". What respondents really were saying probably was that the PM was the no. 1 national issue that needed to be tackled.

I suppose my own view would be that Prayut did a good job with COVID......but problems like COVID respond well to military type solutions.. He has not done a good job restarting the economy and the only minister I had faith in, Somkid, was pushed out in the horse trading of cabinet posts. This ousting has dimmed my view of Prayut.

#1 in what? Moving Thailand backwards, perhaps. For instance. Isetan announced they will not be renewing their lease at Central World. Japanese investments in Thailand are way down, and many companies are pulling out. They see this toxic army, their incompetence, rhe backwards direction the nation is moving, the extreme lack of competence, and it gives them the willies. As it should. Covid can and will be blamed. But, it is far deeper and more sinister than that. 

 

It appears that Japan is averse to what they see as the increasing influence of China here. That is a big issue for them. Also, the US-China Trade war, periodic flooding, with no solutions in sight, and the baht appreciation are issues. Many Japanese companies are exiting China. This is an opportunity for Thailand. But, the extreme incompetence here seems to be inhibiting the ability to move the nation forward. 

Will Japan continue to invest here? Who knows? Will Chinese investment pick up? Probably. Will that be a good thing? Probably not.

 

The fact is Thailand could be doing a dozen different things to make itself more attractive to both tourism and investment. But, all the things it could do, to make itself a better version of it's current self, would require sacrifice and vision. Not something this army led govt. is capable of. Major tax breaks, drastic lowering of luxury and wine taxes, allowing ownership of land and homes by foreigners, relaxation of inane visa laws, ridding the administration of xenophobic ministers, beginning a program of hiring based on merit, improving traffic safety, paying attention to the air and the environment.

 

The list goes on and on and on. Will any of this happen? One can hope. But, it is unlikely as this administration is one of the least progressive on planet earth. They love projections, prognosticactions, declarations and platitudes. But when it comes to the nuts and bolts, and practical improvements, they are absolutely lost in space.
