For me the 2 biggest negatives during a lockdown are no swimming and no schools. At least we currently still have access to the sea, unlike the previous lockdown.

Yes I think they learned a few lessons from mistakes last time. Whether the beaches close might depend how people behave (again). The restaurant change of restrictions was a messy thing though, surely, for those with NYE dinners booked.

My next door neighbour is the manager of a high end restaurant in Pattaya. He had spent the day cancelling all his reservations only to be told at 5pm that he could open. Decided not to bother and spend NYE at home. As his wife was at my wife's NYE girly party, which I had originally planned to avoid, he brought round an excellent Cabernet Sauvignon (4.5k baht/bottle) which we shared on the patio with a constant supply of food brought out from the girls party. All was not lost for either of us.

Me, too. I fail to see why private pools in condos need to be closed while public restaurants can be open.

I did hear talk that the closure was to stop the Bangkok to Pattaya exodus, and that the change to allow opening was deliberately done too late for them to come.  Whether that's true or just another conspiracy theory though.................?

Why propagate the garbage. There was no alcohol ban new years eve, you could very easily get a a beer on the beach or from 7-11, I saw people queuing up with beer just before the 10pm closing.

The real problem was you couldn't get a sit down meal anywhere, takeaway only, other than hotel restaurants  that were restricted to guests.

The U turn came to late, we were wandering around north Pattaya about 9 - 10 pm and the restaurants that were open had no one sitting only doing takeaway, mainly to Grab.

We went back to the hotel bar about 10.30 and had to prove we were resident to get in, didn't stay, sat on the balcony and watched the fireworks in other parts of the province.

It would be important if you were a big drinker. As you aren't, never mind. Others are.

 

I will spell it out for you. If you get drunk you are liable to get close to people, male and female, and probably won't consider a mask important as you drink. Someone is more likely to get drunk if they are at an establishment for drinking only.

 

If this is silly to you please forget about my post.

Another example: A few months earlier, when the last lockdown was active, I managed to get the pool in our condo reopened. I showed that the american CDC doesn't consider pools problematic, and I partially refuted the official sanuk-socialiser theorists by suggesting to open them only to serious swimmers (not splashers & co), plus separate them if necessary - like opening 3 only of 7 available lanes, and staggering the swimmers timewise (swimmer 1 from min 00 to 30, 2 from 10 to 40, 3 from 20 to 50, etc). After a few days of face-saving manoeuvres, the pool was reopened. 

 

I also emphasised the importance little body fat has on the functioning of one's immune system: Yes, covid is like flu if your immune system works at full capacity, ie isn't busy repairing cell damage caused by improper diet. To achieve that, next to a proper diet (like low-carb), exercise is essential. But this time it seems, the globalist svengalis have managed again to use their local lemmings for another hysteric outbreak, aided by thai uncritical trust in hierarchy. 

 

My condo is run by a well-known, Bangkok-based property management business. So they got the ukas to close their pools - provided (NB - NB - NB) that their pool is public. Of course it isn't: No outsider is allowed on the premises because he wants to swim in the pool. It is private and can therefore remain open. But maybe they should get back to my suggestion to make sure that only real swimmers use it. 

 

So they had a margin of discretion which they could and should have used wisely, and again all they did was playing it more-than-safe from their very narrow legal viewpoint. And the local condo admin just followed suit. And again without the slightest consideration for the people who bring the money. Even worse, if you manage to work your way throrugh their system and start to make a difference inside their political hierarchy, indirect threats start (cancelled visa & co) to be rumoured. Thais should really comprehend that some of our thinking is worth considering for themselves. At least whenever they deal with us.

Actually they should be closed. Restaurants are significant infection risks.

You should look at the post I was replying to before you blather off at some self made tangent. I responded to the queried reasoning why restaurants could only serve alcohol with meals. 

The change of mind they had belatedly on eat in meals is another separate matter.

Great to see come good common sense prevail , grog until 10 pm , all makes good sense , although a little late for many with regard to last night .

Get on with life , it's a virus , it was always here and we did just fine .
