A Koh Samui policeman who allegedly raped a young Myanmar woman who was being held in the cells of Bo Phut police station has been granted bail by the court.

This comes despite damning CCTV evidence that the cop took the 21 year old woman out of the cells and forced her to a sofa in an office and raped her.

The provincial police chief has promised justice - a disciplinary committee has been set up and the policeman, Snr Sgt Maj Watcharin Sinsamosorn has already been expelled from the force.

This measure is a sure sign that the RTP believe him to be guilty, notes Thaivisa.

Watcharin was successful in posting bail of 400,000 baht on Friday.

On Wednesday night CCTV showed him enter the cell area and turn off the lights. He then used his key to open "Mo's" cell where she was being held ahead of deportation.

He then dragged her to a traffic police office where he allegedly raped her.

Forensic police were on the scene yesterday examining a sofa where the rape allegedly occurred.

Provincial police chief Pol Maj-Gen Sathit Phonphinit yesterday met with Bo Phut station chief Pol Col Yuthana Sirisombat before examining the cells.

He met with relatives of the victim and promised "justice".

A justice ministry official was also in contact to advise about compensation for the victim from an official fund.

Why does the headline confirm his guilt? It should say ‘after allegedly raping’. Further, no evidence is ‘damning’ until it’s proven in a court.

Judging by the recent school/teacher visa fiasco, I fully expect no prosecution and the lady to be arrested for some visa matter

"the policeman, Snr Sgt Maj Watcharin Sinsamosorn has already been expelled from the force."

Well, the policeman has already lost his job.

It is possible that the case will be dropped if enough 'compensation' is offered to the lady and she accepts.

The lady was already under arrest.

Had this been an ordinary member of the public, he would have had no chance of bail.

Another pathetic disgrace of the Thai justice system.

I believe the above makes him an ordinary member of the public.

I wonder if the 400,000 Baht is the only condition of bail. No mention on restrictions from leaving the island. Question is, will he return and face the court or dissapear and forfeit the 400K? If he does a runner will they be bothered to chase him or simply bag the money? What "compensation" is the victim likely to receive? Will she be treated harsher for whatever she was alleged to have done to be in the cell in the first place? There seems to be more questions than answers with this case. Doubt there will ever be full public notice on whether proper justice is served. T.I.T.
