Popular Post rooster59 Posted January 16, 2021 Popular Post Posted January 16, 2021 PM promises "Fast - Safe - Transparent - Comprehensive" vaccine program - no mention of foreigners. Image: Daily News Thai prime minister Prayuth Chan-ocha has urged the health authorities to conduct a fast Covid-19 vaccine rollout. Yet health minister Anutin Charnvirakul admitted one of the vaccines won't arrive in Thailand until JUNE. There was also no mention of the word "foreigners" in the Daily News report - just Thai people. Anutin addressed the press after a one hour briefing with Prayuth about the vaccination program. He said that the PM had ordered a fast, safe, comprehensive and transparent rollout free from political interference or influence. Promising "equality" he said that everyone would be vaccinated in a year in what would be the health department's biggest vaccination program ever. Health workers would be first. No mention was made of foreigners living in Thailand, just Thais. He would not stand in the way of other authorities who plan to purchase their own vaccine lots. This was not an abrogation of responsibility on behalf of the government, he said. Places like downtown Khon Kaen and Bangkok have suggested they will purchase millions of doses and vaccinate themselves. In the capital alone a spokesman said earlier this week that a budget was available for 5 million jabs. Anutin said that 26 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine had been bought and the first lot would arrive in June. Regarding Sinovac the company is still seeking registration of the vaccine in China and it would also need to be approved by the Thai FDA. Ministerial aide Dr Sophon Mekthon told the press that the first members of the public to get the vaccine would be Thai people over 60, the chronically sick with diseases like diabetes, lung infections and high blood pressure. Children under 16 or 18 - a 10 million member group - would have to wait. Source: Daily News 2 3 9

Also GF her company is looking into getting the vaccine themselves they are a medical company. I don't see the problem of governments not taking care of non Thais. We made choices when we came here.. why expect a government to take care of us. If you want that then go back to your home country. There you are being taken care of have more rights. 30 12 9 5

But the Thaivisa story and headline turned it into us foreigners being snubbed. The English in the UK press also has failed to mention foreigners, As did the Aussie press, the USA press, the European press etc. I thought we were important???? I wonder how many foreigners actually read the Thai language Thai Daily News? I am shocked they didn’t include the info regarding foreigners to all of their expat readership. Both of them will be disappointed. 3 3 1 3

I remember the same poster also expected the Thais to devalue their baht, because the Aussie dollar dropped in value. I wonder if he requested the Aussie government to increase the Aussie dollar which would have the same effect. 6 2 2

We are only "dirty farang" if we take such comments to heart. See it for what it really is: an ignorant comment made by an ignorant human (this guy, not the general population) who only has his position thanks to family connections. If he didn't have those, he'd be driving a tuktuk. Once you understand that, you can take everything he says with a pinch of salt. A little like not taking the likes of Trump seriously. 8 2
Bezdomny Posted January 16, 2021 Posted January 16, 2021 I dont see a problem. Regarding to the TVF commentators only western expats have money and spend it in Thailand, all Chinese, Indians and Russians are cheap charlies. ????

Yea that is what the TVF brigade says but I always see the moan about increases of price of items alcohol prices and so on. Often asking where is the best value for money breakfast(not where is the nicest breakfast). So I really don't think farangs are big spenders a lot of them are cheap Charlies for sure. 2

Any reasonable health official would think it is to the nation's benefit to have EVERYONE vaccinated. What do you think a fair price is? Bearing in mind the Astra Zeneca vaccine has a production cost of approximately 100 baht. 3 3

I don't really see what production cost has to do with it. Its not as if it magically appears at an hospital and then get magically injected. They should at least make a 1000 or more profit on it after paying for all the costs and stuff. 3

Unit cost of freight would be a few baht. The usual consultation in a private hospital here is about 300 - 500 baht. IME the doctors don't even do the injections, they leave it to the nurses. Who are probably much better at it anyway. Add in administrative costs, 100 - 200 baht at most. So if a hospital here was wanting 8000 baht for the vaccination, how would you feel about Thais getting vaccinated for 30 baht? Foreigners are just as good at spreading COVID as anyone else, the virus does not discriminate on race. 3 5

I was talking about those of us that only pay vat here. As for what happens in the UK does not matter at all about what happens here. I mean go back to the UK if you want that treatment. Why would Thailand have to do the same as the UK. Maybe the UK should do the same as Thailand. I mean I don't really see the connection. You choose to live in Thailand so accept how they treat foreigners. Forget about the UK unless you want to live there. I know my country is also really liberal, but that does not make me feel entitled to things here in Thailand. But you IMHO are entitled as you paid into social security. 1
