Buriram immigration inspector transferred amid claims he allowed Chinese pirate goods man to extend "religious" visa

Thailand's immigration chief Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang signed his name to an order for the transfer of an inspector of immigration in Buriram in Thailand's north east.

Pol Maj Jakkrapong Permkamlangphon has been stripped of all his regular duties and ordered to a clerical post at base.

He has been replaced by Pol Lt-Col Theerawat Thipthanawiwat.

The move comes after the Department of Special Investigation arrested a Chinese national called Sanglee Lee, 42, in Dao Khanong, Thonburi, when a large number of pirated goods were seized on January 19th.

Lee had been given permission to extend his stay in Thailand on 11th June last year in Buriram to study Buddhism or engage in religious activities.

Sources suggested that the man transferred oversaw the granting of visas to a group of Chinese people.

They have been pictured in white robes at a temple in the north east  that they claimed was their address under Article 38 regulations.

A gang is behind the pirate goods operation going on in Thonburi near Bangkok and the suggestion is that the senior immigration officer was somehow involved.

He would not have been transferred unless there was actually something to his involvement .

why transferred and not Fired/Removed with ziltch/zero/nothing of a pension, I can't figure out why Thailand uses the easy way out transferring these corrupted officials to another place/job whereby they would still be open/willing/exposed to more envelopes

because this kind of thing is so common and accepted in the culture. corruption and lies are so rampant that not much thought goes into these things.

its like..... meh just transfer him and the commoners will forget and move on.

Highly surprising AFAIK Buriram IO is/[was?] an absolute gem. None of the dreadful stories one can read here. Just hope the new boss can keep up the good work.
