I know, just joshing with you.  Enjoy your 'outside' cold beers. Although often they are not cold enough for me.  Mine have the start of ice formation in the bottle, then its ready.

Ha ha yep got that and agree on the Icey beer.

in the end, ask, does it matter???  Cash = KING.  Ladies don't care what you look like, only for security, protection, and cash. (politeness is optional)  Then they leave.  End of story.  Those are the EXCLUSIVE things that matter.  Nothing else.

My point was that Americans have inflicted this terrible fashion crime upon the world.

Nobody else to blame.

Can we now travel to Ko Samet without issue ?

We travelled from Rayong to Chonburi and back again last Friday, before the restrictions were lifted and there were no check points anywhere to be seen. We were armed with the requisite travel permit but didn't need it.

Why try to deflect? Everyone knows it's a vile Brit thing. In fact, the Brits got it from the Romans and spread it like a virus. Germans all got infected.

The earliest evidence of wearing socks and sandals is documented at the archaeological site between Dishforth and Leeming in North Yorkshire, England. The discovery suggests that old Romans wore socks with sandals at least 2,000 years ago.[2][3]

And so worldwide even decades ago:

The Britons are, according to The China Post, "famed for fashion blunders like wearing socks with sandals".[9]

-- "Britons are worst-dressed European tourists: study". The China Post (originally AFP). 7 June 2010. Retrieved 1 August 2013.

A Spanish poster on tripadvisor confirmed a decade ago:

LOL

In Spain the stereotype of a British tourist is:

1. Sandals with (white) socks

2. Sunburnt

Definately not normal to wear sandals with sock

So a cursory search will reveal countless examples:

https://www.google.com/search?pws=0&tbm=isch&q=british+tourists+socks+and+sandals&gl=us

It's in fact a proud tradition over there in the UK:

There's a lot going on in this outfit.

This man is causing tartan terror with this ultimate fashion blunder

So I've seen throughout the years Brits in Pattaya waddling around in their white socks and sandals looking vile. Shall we also mention Doc Martens on Brit women?

The other part of the ubiquitous Brit uniform is of course the cargo shorts and plaid collared shirt from some Eastend thrift store. Evidently Brits inflicted cargo shorts on the world by shortening their military cargo pants worn in tropical climes in the ol' Empire days. So Thai Immigration officers can recognize a Brit instantly and prepare for sloppy paperwork ("shouldn't need this"), whinging and argument.

Thank god the Americans gave the world Levis, T-shirts, and Nikes, the look universally respected for coolness. And Ralph Lauren created the modern polo shirt for dress up. ???? Nonsense, bash, and slander sorted.

I'm just going off personal experience and can't even approach competing with your thorough research.

To me it will remain an American fashion crime.

But I appreciate the time spent on your post.

Oh, because you want it to, even though it's known as Brit fashion crime.

Amazing how provincialism and bigotry can create such selective perception that you're blind to the ubiquity of Brits wearing socks and sandals. Click the google link, man. I've always seen many in Pattaya.

The usual provincialism and bigotry I guess.

To me it's known as an American fashion crime. Sorry we don't agree... but we are mature enough to disagree and get on with our lives aren't we...?

Ah yes... Americans don't seem to be too good at that.

Note the constant need to bash Americans that goes along with the selective perception. Not surprising, is it? Wonder why that is?
