Its the same (if not worse) on the West Coast of Phuket. almost all businesses are closed (most not just temporary closures).

Thai Government are doing close to nothing to help support the Thai's in this area.....Most have lost their jobs....many have packed up and gone back to their provinces (but the ones who cant even afford to leave have been left to their own devices to try and survive. Very sad to hear the stories from the local Thai's.

The realization that the vaccination of farang in their home country is not the only part of reviving tourism to Thailand.

The vaccine has to roll out across Thailand also, before vaccinated farang will be allowed to visit, and obviously Thai's here don't have confidence in their government to expedite that.

Thailand say 5 million vaccines available every month free of charge to Thai starting June.. 70 million people ... two doses .. with the best will in the world that's 28 months for everyone to be vaccinated with 2 doses ..IF everything goes as planned

If you have enough money to last the rest of your life, do you really still need to 'invest'?

Avarice:

Avarice is a more formal word than greed. It suggests a desire to accumulate more and more wealth; and also to hold on to what one has accumulated, hence also suggesting miserliness. It is almost always associated with money and possessions and is not used for food. ... Greed is a less formal and more general word than avarice.

Back to the Villages!!?? Stupid!! Not everyone in Pattaya lives in Huts and are rice farmers.  1st Pattaya, then Samui, soon all the tourist places will be a thing of the past.   Be careful Patong and Krabi

Most Thais do live in villages, although many have leccy and water.

Shame about Patts. But then; shame about a lot of things around the world.

I am blessed to be in Isaan. Trees everywhere. Dirt roads. Clean air. Nice people. Dog packs a bit of a downer, and once the rains start, have to look out for snakes. Is there a better place to live than Isaan?

Once covid-19 has been completed eradicated, Pattaya's 'family resort' will return back to its glory days.

Trust you don't mind waiting several years.

I would say up to 10 years. That is a guess on the optimistic side.

Agreed.  I am looking to rent (a house) long-term.  It should be a buyers' market but daily I see ludicrous prices being asked. Rather than suffer a loss of 'face', landlords would suffer months of no income.

The reason is that there is a different feel to things here.  It takes the bank years for foreclose if they do.

There is  no holding fee of any real kind and of course you can shut off the utilities and not worry about the place.

The smart money for those that can is just to mothball the place and then in a couple of years when the market comes back wither sell or rent.

As long as there is no bank on your assets then you really have no loss.

Why would vaccinated tourist want to come to a country of unvaccinated locals?

not to worry ; TAT has them coming back next month in the millions

Pattaya has always been "the ripoff farang city"  Farangs did not mind as long as they can be well entertained.

Even before the pandemic the bars used to be filled with old ladies. the young ladies are gone because they wanted younger clientele.  Now they are desperate, hope they can come back and realize who has money. Restaurant well already poor quality and expensive.  So no loss to patttaya there between the old grand ma working the bars, poor quality restaurant.. May be the city can be improved and thai people come back with a different prospect towards farangs.

The only people who have money in thailand now are the farangs

I wonder if the government will ever realize that the farangs were the ones keeping this city going.  Visa requirements are still not very friendly.

This Pandemie has made a lot of people more "Inventive".
I know personally a few girls who used to work in a beer bar in Pattaya before the Pandemie.
When tourist were low and the bar closed, she came back to Issaan to help in the family farm.
They started a "Cam show" in which they offered nude movies and playing with toys.
Some of them offered also a "Cam show" with a girlfriend or a boyfriend.
After a month, they made more money than with working in the beer bars in Pattaya and be far from their family.
And, best of all, they did not need to sleep with a smelly old farang for 1,500 Baht.
Now, they have a good income and don't think to go back to that <deleted>hole.

The same with the food sellers.
They came back to Issaan and opened an online food store.
A lot of them publish their food in Facebook.
They make a lot of money and don't need an expensive infrastructure.
A phone and a kitchen and they can make money.

Many things have changed with Covid-19 and some have changed for the better.

Would have to disagree,

The younger ladies are gone because they all know how to use Thaifriendly, WeChat, Line, BeeTalk, et al and would prefer not to sit in scummy bars as unpaid wait staff where everyone can see how they are earning their money.
