WhyamIhere
I wonder if the government will ever realize that the farangs were the ones keeping this city going. Visa requirements are still not very friendly.
StevePettman
Its the same (if not worse) on the West Coast of Phuket. almost all businesses are closed (most not just temporary closures). Thai Government are doing close to nothing to help support the Thai's in this area.....Most have lost their jobs....many have packed up and gone back to their provinces (but the ones who cant even afford to leave have been left to their own devices to try and survive. Very sad to hear the stories from the local Thai's.

Thailand say 5 million vaccines available every month free of charge to Thai starting June.. 70 million people ... two doses .. with the best will in the world that's 28 months for everyone to be vaccinated with 2 doses ..IF everything goes as planned

Trees everywhere. Dirt roads. Clean air. Nice people. Dog packs a bit of a downer, and once the rains start, have to look out for snakes. Is there a better place to live than Isaan? 1 1

Popular Post GeilGeilertzen
Year by year for the last 20 years Thais have shown an increase in cocky behavior towards foreigners. And right before the pandemic such behavior was pretty bad in some areas where has a lot of tourism. Maybe it’s about to sink in that they are not much without tourists money and successful export businesses to these same foreigner countries. Rice bags alone can’t fill up the bank. In Saigon I was approached every day, sitting in the park, in the coffee shops, just walking down the road. In Cambodia, I was approached nearly every time I went out the door. In Chiang Mai never, unless I was in hooker street (Loi Kro or MoonMuang Soi 1/2). Pattaya, again not unless I was walking down one of the hooker streets. Bangkok, not even once, ever. I guess it depends where you live, and what sort of streets you walk down. Edited February 7, 2021 by BritManToo 3

Popular Post NoComment
A real shame for the good people of Thailand. The people do not deserve what is happening. The Kingdom will, of course, recover eventually. The only worry is the Chinese investors being allowed to buy The Kingdom from under the nose of the people. Thailand was a fantastic tourist destination for the whole world, however, the influx and influence of the Chinese money will not be in the favour of the people or The Kingdom. 5

It should be a buyers' market but daily I see ludicrous prices being asked. Rather than suffer a loss of 'face', landlords would suffer months of no income. The reason is that there is a different feel to things here. It takes the bank years for foreclose if they do. There is no holding fee of any real kind and of course you can shut off the utilities and not worry about the place. The smart money for those that can is just to mothball the place and then in a couple of years when the market comes back wither sell or rent. As long as there is no bank on your assets then you really have no loss.

Popular Post D M G
What is the problem with self-quarantine? – It’s enforceable by both manual and modern means – It has an immediate impact on the economy with a limited danger of spreading of the virus – It can be rolled out to select groups: the Retired, Employed, Educator, etc – It’s a Win/Win for the Government, the unemployed locals and the disgruntled foreigner I have not heard a legitimate objection or discussion. This should be questioned, addressed, analyzed. 3

Even before the pandemic the bars used to be filled with old ladies. the young ladies are gone because they wanted younger clientele. Now they are desperate, hope they can come back and realize who has money. Restaurant well already poor quality and expensive. So no loss to patttaya there between the old grand ma working the bars, poor quality restaurant.. May be the city can be improved and thai people come back with a different prospect towards farangs. Confuscious
This Pandemie has made a lot of people more "Inventive". I know personally a few girls who used to work in a beer bar in Pattaya before the Pandemie. When tourist were low and the bar closed, she came back to Issaan to help in the family farm. They started a "Cam show" in which they offered nude movies and playing with toys. Some of them offered also a "Cam show" with a girlfriend or a boyfriend. After a month, they made more money than with working in the beer bars in Pattaya and be far from their family. And, best of all, they did not need to sleep with a smelly old farang for 1,500 Baht. Now, they have a good income and don't think to go back to that <deleted>hole. The same with the food sellers. They came back to Issaan and opened an online food store. A lot of them publish their food in Facebook. They make a lot of money and don't need an expensive infrastructure. A phone and a kitchen and they can make money. Many things have changed with Covid-19 and some have changed for the better.
