This is quite literally the honest truth of it all. Trump didn't tell anyone to storm the capital and his rhetoric is certainly no more or less extreme than the people trying to prosecute him.

He reset the date of the protest for 6 Jan, the day the results were to be certified. Coincidence?

He incited the terrorist insurrection, and not only on 6 Jan, but from the first time he declared a free and fair election as 'fraudulent'. Since his base are not among the best and brightest, they bought into his lie. They came to DC at his request, went to the Capitol after he told them to go, and he watched the whole sordid episode on TV without doing a thing to halt it, such as call in the National Guard.

There is ZERO chance the putsch would have happened if not for him and his lies about the election. ZERO.

He also put his own VP in harm's way by Tweeting that Pence has failed to act unconstitutionally and void the election. The terrorists were monitoring his Tweets in real time, and upon seeing that Tweet began their chant of "Hang Mike Pence". The House Impeachment Managers pointed this out using the time line of the videos and the Tweets.

That the (R)s refuse to convict in not unexpected, as they are cowards and fascists.

What they will have done is give a free pass to ANY POTUS who loses a re-election to claim fraud, tell his/her base to come and 'fight', and even try to foment physical violence against a VP if that VP fails to do POTUS's bidding. EVERY POTUS will now have a free two week window, from date of Congressional certification until the Inauguration, to do whatever he/she wants to try to overturn a free and fair election.

What he did is a black mark against the US which will live in infamy. It is the most egregious action ever committed by a sitting POTUS.

We can't just blame Trump for this. His enablers are also to blame. As is the fake news right wing media.

When has a Democratic leader lied repeatedly about a stolen election to a mob of supporters, told them "you'll never take back our country with weakness. You have to show strength and you have to be strong" and "fight like hell", then point them towards the Capitol?

He also spent a considerable portion of his speech ranting about fake news and once again called legitimate news outlets the "enemy of the people".  Trump is the most serious threat to democracy and the First Amendment the US has ever had.

Never has been a Democrat like that. Mr. trump has been America's special republican white nationalist demagogue. I wish he was totally over already but he and his loyalists are still kicking. Hopefully he can be convicted in actual trials.

At least some of them have some time in jail to think about how he conned them then left them out to dry,

Yes, but the chief insurrectionist really, really deserves to join them ASAP. If he goes down, I don't think it will be for insurrection per se, but he's an extremely rich target for many kinds of indictments now that he has lost his presidential magic shield.
