BANGKOK, Feb 16 (TNA) – Thailand logged two more cases of the South African variant of COVID-19.

During a discussion on COVID-19 mutation, Assist Prof Dr Opass Putcharoen, chief of King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital’s Center of Emerging Infectious Diseases, said two more Thai returnees were confirmed with the South African variant of COVID-19, raising the total of cases with the variant to three.

The new cases were being included in the government’s database on COVID-19 cases, he said while calling for serious measures to control the variant in the country.

  • He could also call on Thai's to have a covid free test before boarding flights back

  • You need to read the news more often, cases are dropping and hospitals are not all overflowing Sir.  California has also been opened back up to a degree, but obviously was shutdown like Thailand was.

  • Thais don’t have to test before getting on a plane home. Foreigners do, then they have to sit on a plane with infected Thais. It’s a great system.

They keep carping on about the numbers of infected going down every day but i think this African Version is a lot more worrying and is likely to spread quicker.   How many people were on the Flight(s) these people took, including Crew and where are they all now ?

Here we go again!

Oops, this variant could get around the vaccines they keep talking about everyday.

They put all their trust in keeping the virus out rather than purchasing efficient vaccin. Next step 21d asq for "risk countries", that list might be long.

Thailand will never get a serious covid outbreak. Period.

So much for visiting my son. Think I am definitely staying in California.  Are you folks sure they are not requiring any returning Thai nationals to fly without being tested first like we have to do.  That sounds crazy.

And they will keep seeing it as long as Thai do not need a covid test to fly back, also infecting all other passengers in their way. You cannot cure stupid.

What happened to "Thailand really doesn't want tourists" and "Quarantine should be scrapped"?

Don't fly to Thailand for the next 10 years.

3mm plus cases and over 47k deaths due to covid in California. Do you even follow the news?

We're pretty much open here. California is shut down with hospitals overflowing.

I'd escape California ASAP.

You are quite right to point this out nearly all on that plane got infected as this virus spreads much quicker, Thailand will have to wake up if this takes hold then its lock-down for a long time

Here is an interesting and readable article about why, how, if viruses evolve to less virulent or transmissible forms. From Smithsonian. A few forces can drive a virus one way or the other, but they are not a given. There is no automatic rule. Right now SARS-2 is taking care of itself.

They also note the early, much more transmissible 614G strain was poo-pooed by many experts, only to become a gold standard fact.

They found another one now.

Under investigation, not yet of concern.

The Asian countries won't release any info either because they don't want any stigma attached to them, or, in the case of Thailand, also have no medical or scientific capacity to detect and analyze anything.

So, all the new strains will be from outside Asia. Hopefully someone finds that strange.

Come quickly! There is a new variant in California.

"A new SARS-CoV-2 variant, CAL.20C, has been detected in southern California amid a surge in local infections and is spreading through and beyond the United States, according to a research letter published yesterday in JAMA." Feb 12, 2021

That’s how it works when you never do serious testing.

I think I will end my time here now and go to another one of the forums since you appear to be a ring leader at slamming people before you get your facts straight.

Best to just ignore him, unless your giving Thailand pats on the back and quoting past rankings on its control of the virus constantly.

And no mention of where they came from or how they got here . Talk about keeping people in the dark !!

maybe forbid your citizens to go on a useless business trip, they get free hotel & boarding afterwards, not out of own pocket...
