BANGKOK, Feb 16 (TNA) – Thailand logged two more cases of the South African variant of COVID-19.

During a discussion on COVID-19 mutation, Assist Prof Dr Opass Putcharoen, chief of King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital’s Center of Emerging Infectious Diseases, said two more Thai returnees were confirmed with the South African variant of COVID-19, raising the total of cases with the variant to three.

The new cases were being included in the government’s database on COVID-19 cases, he said while calling for serious measures to control the variant in the country.

They put all their trust in keeping the virus out rather than purchasing efficient vaccin. Next step 21d asq for "risk countries", that list might be long.

So much for visiting my son. Think I am definitely staying in California.  Are you folks sure they are not requiring any returning Thai nationals to fly without being tested first like we have to do.  That sounds crazy.

And they will keep seeing it as long as Thai do not need a covid test to fly back, also infecting all other passengers in their way. You cannot cure stupid.

Thais don’t have to test before getting on a plane home. Foreigners do, then they have to sit on a plane with infected Thais. It’s a great system.

Don't fly to Thailand for the next 10 years.

They keep carping on about the numbers of infected going down every day but i think this African Version is a lot more worrying and is likely to spread quicker.   How many people were on the Flight(s) these people took, including Crew and where are they all now ?

You are quite right to point this out nearly all on that plane got infected as this virus spreads much quicker, Thailand will have to wake up if this takes hold then its lock-down for a long time

Here is an interesting and readable article about why, how, if viruses evolve to less virulent or transmissible forms. From Smithsonian. A few forces can drive a virus one way or the other, but they are not a given. There is no automatic rule. Right now SARS-2 is taking care of itself.

They also note the early, much more transmissible 614G strain was poo-pooed by many experts, only to become a gold standard fact.

Come quickly! There is a new variant in California.

"A new SARS-CoV-2 variant, CAL.20C, has been detected in southern California amid a surge in local infections and is spreading through and beyond the United States, according to a research letter published yesterday in JAMA." Feb 12, 2021

Thailand will never get a serious covid outbreak. Period.

That’s how it works when you never do serious testing.

Best to just ignore him, unless your giving Thailand pats on the back and quoting past rankings on its control of the virus constantly.

Where have I posted covid misinformation. Please show it. I'll wait.
