Republican leaders want a show of unity. Will Trump allow it?

Featured Replies

But I liked President TRUMP.
He was true to himself, tight in his boots, never deviating.
He waved to everyone, applauded the crowd.
Several times a day there was something going on with him.
Now I feel like America no longer exists.
It's dead and sad.

  • 55555....don't these Republicans ever get it?  With Trump, there is no such thing as a team.  It's about him and nothing else matters.

Trump’s title is Mr President, it is a courtesy,  he is not ‘President Trump’.

  • Please refer to him as former president.  He goes ballistic when he hears it.  Perhaps "twice-impeached former president" would be better, in underlines how unique his presidency was.

A Republican how of unity - what crime must they commit?

Never deviating even if called out on a big or small lie.

Even if that path was leading to the deaths of his fellow Americans.

He waved to his supporters and sycophants. Attempted to ridicule, lie about, denigrate and damage others.

He applauded those that sucked up to him so hard they forgot who they were.

Several times a day he lied, exaggerated and complained like a baby  - if that's your thing OK.

Life is so much better now. Trump gone is good for the heart and soul of America and the world.

It's sad that he'll try to get back in power because though he has a strong base I think enough people had enough of his nonsense and he'll fail.

Well that there is pretty high on the wacko meter.  Since Trump is history and never coming back, you need to find yourself a new cult....5555.

Trump can never win another national election.  The only power he has left--maybe--is to derail the careers of certain Republicans in very red states.  That, and the power to incite extreme nutbags to commit violence.

You should learn about the presidents who have led their compatriots to death, with the simple reflection so "stupid", so stupid: "we strongly condemn these attacks, these attacks, these massacres. Justice will be done".
Nothing is done, or very little.
And it continues with impunity.

The has-been seems to be a plague which cannot be remedied as long as the vectors of his disease are in office. A thorough fumigation to get rid of these pests is in order.

Ex-President Trump will sort out the weeds from the grass in no time. He will the leader of the party sooner than later. Just don't worry about the Republican's as they will shine. I would worry more about the Dems. as I hear over 30 Dems. don't want Biden to carry the Nuclear football. For once I would be on the side of the Dems. wouldn't you?

Typical distortion. Those Democrats don't want any President to have the sole authority to launch a nuclear war. And it's opposed by at least some high ranking Republicans.

"House Republicans on the Armed Services Committee are slamming the effort, with GOP Conference Chair Liz Cheney (R-Wy.), Committee Ranking Member Mike Rogers (R-Al.) and Subcommittee Ranking Member Mike Turner (R-Oh.) releasing a statement decrying the idea as dangerous.

“The President of the United States must have the exclusive ability to command and control our nuclear deterrent. Democrats’ dangerous efforts suggesting a restructuring of our nuclear command and control process will undermine American security, as well as the security of our allies,” the three said."

Democrats might be thinking that he might be a bit shaky with his trigger finger.

To judge by the standards by your baseless inference, Republicans aren't thinking that. In other words, what you're claiming makes no sense.

The only thing that matters to these spineless cretins is keeping their snout in the trough.

He can and he will if he can overcome the state of New York's legal case against him.

Golden. Many folks can't seem to grasp that's all Trump is. Overriding the integrity and agenda of the American people.

Roll out the golden calf in the form of Trump draped in fake gold wearing his shorts designed American flag and worship the false idol. Religious conservative Rep Party has gone all wrong with Trump.

Other than being a cult leader, one really wonders what value and ideas the guy brings to the Party.

If they decide to choose him in 2024 (IMO, extremely unlikely and he'll be a forgotten 'family shame' by then), what's he going to do?

Infrastructure? An 'amazing' healthcare plan?

He had four years to do that if he really cared, and he didn't (do nor care).

The Party he ostensibly leads, much to the dismay of actual Conservatives like Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, is now an amalgam of nutjobs, conspiracy theorists, 'stolen election' believers with zero evidence of any fraud, fascists, racists, the assorted brain-addled, and Rafael 'Ted' Cruz. Gathering at the quite arguably weird CPAC, the crowd of acolytes showing up nearby include QAnon types, people who claim he will 'become the 19th President on March 4th' (owing to some batshoot crazy conspiracy about the US becoming a corporation in the late 19th Century and thus POTUSs after U S Grant were just CEOs), and other people most would choose to avoid socially and physically.

No doubt the assembled sycophants inside CPAC will applaud wildly if the guy assaults the flag again like it's a 'name for a small kitten' he was recorded as saying he can grab, because his cult fits the age-old description of those content with 'panem et circenses', or perhaps Charles Mackay's "Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds". No one can reasonably argue now that the Party he leads is anything more than a cult of personality, peppered by empty promises, endless lies, and 3-4 word tag lines that resonate with the simple minded (e.g., 'stop the steal', 'drain the swamp', 'lock her up', etc.). Here's betting his 'speech' will be full of lies, vindictive taunts, self-pity, and absolutely devoid of substance, which is to say his typical drivel.

America should be more than that sort of nonsense. Maybe it is naive to think that, but the US is in no way a better place for that guy having become POTUS, and would be well-advised to rid itself of him and his ilk forever.

Perhaps his Party will adopt his style of three-word tag lines and start "Dump the xxxxx", allowing themselves to move on and act as a legitimate counter voice in what should be at least a two-Party system.

Bill Maher has a clue at least...

"Maher continued, 'He is going to say Sunday that he's the presumptive nominee in 2024, no one is going to oppose him, there are nine panels at the CPAC convention all about how the election was stolen, none about why it was lost. That's where they are. If you think that 2024 is not going to be a nailbiter or that he isn't going to be the nominee, I think you're being naive.'"

Former CPAC Chair Minces No Words Slamming What The Event, GOP Have Now Become

"In an interview with CNN’s Erin Burnett, Edwards likened the GOP to a cult whose members are living in an alternate reality. “The party seems now to be completely following the lead of one man wherever he goes, which is the definition of a cult,” he continued “Now all that matters is ‘Trump is for this, we’re for this.’ And that includes denying truth, denying fact, denying reality."

Alright. How many rational Republicans are there? Certainly a whole lot of Republicans voted for Trump in the first place, and even more surprisingly (or not) more did so the second time around, when most of the stuff mentioned was already public knowledge.

Factor in voter attentions span - we're talking about 3 years from now (campaign start), much of this would be in the past, and obviously not all will be fixed - and blamed on Biden without blinking an eye.

Trump's legal troubles, on which some hang their hopes, may take longer than that to sort. Rationally, going into a campaign while these are on would seem foolish, but for Trump that'd be just another opportunity for the old battle cry "Witch hunt!".

I'd be weary.

George W. Bush who launched the 2nd Iraq War and had the worst economic disaster befall the country since the Great Depression, is now regarded positively by a majority of Americans.

I believe you know my opinion of Trump. My comment was not so much about him, but rather about the voters.

Ultimately, a whole lot of Americans voted for him despite his many faults. And while Biden won, it was not by a landslide, and given public attention span, not an assured repeat in four years' time.

The poster I was replying to commented on 'rational' Republicans. You yourself posted more than once links reviewing the prevalence of belief in various conspiracy theories (most notably, QAnon) among Republican and Trump voters. Doubtful all will come to their senses by the next elections.
