  • A cynical ploy by the Tories to strengthen their electoral hand, given that an excess of expats would vote for them over the alternatives.   A pity they couldn't be bothered to address somet

  • I would never vote for them.My pension is supposed to be covered under the withdrawal agreement. They wouldn't break a signed into law international agreement would they.

  • Basically when we came from UK to Thailand for me to retire my wife was to be allowed a percentage of my pension when I peg it. There were also other allowances but it's been taken away.

Doesn't matter what they think. You vote for who you want.

Most of us overseas are not rich. Especially those with frozen state pensions.

What a stupid clickbait article.  The extended right to vote is nothing to do with being a "celebrity tax exile" - it applies irrespective of celebrity or wealth.

But then again, it is The Times, so I'd be foolish to expect any better.

They could have gone with:  "Socialist, one legged, black, lesbian single parents win back the right to vote".  It would have been equally true, and equally misdirecting.

Now all that is needed is an overseas constituency to enable Brits abroad to have their own MP to deal with problems that overseas residents have concerning spousal visa and many other issues.

Agreed, MP's for the constituencies in which expats are registered as overseas voters, regardless of their political  persuasion, do not, generally speaking, give a toss about their particular issues. Certainly I was met with walls of deafening silence from my "local" MP in connection with a couple of matters which I endeavoured to take up with him.
