Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has set up a 28-member independent committee to resolve the long-standing land conflict, between the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and a group of indigenous Karen villagers of Ban Bangkloi in the Kaeng Krachan national park in Phetchaburi province.

The panel, which will comprise representatives from the state, civic society, such as P-move and the Ban Bangkloi community, will be given 30 days to work out a solution.

Natural Resources and Environment Permanent Secretary Jatuporn Burutpat said today that the prime minister has also instructed the police to suspend legal action, against the alleged land encroachers among the Karen villagers, until the panel develops a solution to the problem.

so they will arrive at no solution, and then what ? ahh, just wait for the public outcry to abate and call the whole thing solved

Just give them back the right to inhabit the land and rebuild the burned out residences. Nuff said.

The 32 man "independent" [cough] committee will arrive at a solution... I somehow don't believe it will find in-favour of the Karen people.

Representatives on the committee include people from the state, ie., the Prayut government. How can such a committee be independent, impartial and unpolitical to make fact-based determinations?

Will Prayut be the committee chairman?

Prayut does not back them to return to the land, he has stated as much and thinks those without land should be given land elsewhere.  Reminds me of the US and the American Indians.

Independent panel, ha ha ha, never happen.

Karen villagers will not be listened to, they will get trodden on, treated dismally, as all hill tribe people are, sadly they are considered as 2nd class citizens here, no rights what so ever.
