Karen villagers gather in the forests as they hide from military airstrikes in the Deh Bu Noh area of the Papun district, north Karen state, Myanmar, Sunday, March 28, 2021 / AP

About 3,000 ethnic Karen people have taken refuge on the Thai border, in Mae Sariang district of Thailand’s northern province of Mae Hong Son, after their villages were bombed by Myanmar army aircraft on Sunday.

Local officials in Mae Sariang said that the Karen have taken refuge at three locations in Mae Khong sub-district, as Thai security officials ensure that the displaced people do not venture away from the three locations.

Medical supplies have been sent to the refuges from a local hospital, as some of the children and elderly have fallen sick.

Activist groups say Thai authorities have forced back more than 2,000 refugees fleeing Myanmar air strikes

Fresh report, Brand new as it just happened over night with the first air strikes by the Myanmar Army in 20 years against the Karen militia and Karen people.  My GF has family in the Area and they are all fleeing.  The Myanmar Military says they will defnd the people but instead they are killing them.  Full out Civil war is on the brink in my GF's view, and I jyst read an article where the British Embassy and Government has told the British Citizens to flee the atrocities being committed by the Myanmar Military.

Interestingly , there is a survey on TV today about expats, one question being where you would live if not Thailand - Myanmar was on that list. Be interested to see how many picked that option !

I was not clear from that survey if the "other" option was meant to apply only to SE Asia, or Asia in general, or anywhere. I'd say Italy but I doubt if that's what they had in mind.
