Recommended urologist for surgery Bangkok Hospital (BKK)

My insurance company won't pay for my preferred urologist, Dr Viroj Chodchoi at Bumrungrad for hydrocelectomy.. They say too expensive.

They want me to go to Bangkok Hospital for the operation. I have used the "Find a Doctor" feature on their website, but unlike the Bumrungrad one it doesn't give much info.

Can anyone recommend a urologist there? Maybe Sheryl? I don't just want any so and so messing with the family jewels.

The other option that has just come into my head might be to see if the insurer will agree to Dr. Viroj if I offer to pay the difference. Will they normally agree to something like this?

TIA

They might. You'd have to ask.

I doubt the insurance company has any objection to the doctor, more likley it is the hospital they object to. Does your insurance policy allow them to do this? Check the wording.

If not, insist.

I don't have any particular knowledge of or feedback on the uros at Bangkok Hospital.

I think I will phone Dr Viroj and explain the situation. See if there is the possibility of dropping the price on any excess I will have to pay.

Sheryl: Have you heard any feedback on Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tawatchai Taweemonkongsap?  He is listed on Bangkok Hospital's Urology Doctors list, but is also at Siriraj.

The only part of the total price Dr. Viroj has any control over is his own fee which will be but a small part of the total.

OR fee, anethetist's fee, room rate, medications etc etc - he has no say on any of those costs. And it is these rather than the doctor fee that likely account for cost differential between Bumrungrad and Bangkok Hospital (which itself is on the expensive side).

Prof. Tawatchai focus mainly on urologic cancers but is a senior professor at Mahidol in urology so should be well able to do this.

You did not answer my question re whether your policy specifically states it does nto cover treatment at Bumrungrad?

if nto and if the issue is just that your insurer did nto agree with the price quote they got from the hospital try to have your insurer& the hospital negotiate together....or ask your insurance to rpe-authorize at an amount they are comfortable with. The initial estimates are usually higher than actual cost will be, hospitals prefer to over than under estimate.

I would use the doctor I wanted to use and then fight it out with the insurance company.

I'm surprised they accept Bkk and not bummer. I don't think the price differential is that great between the two. My insurance company bummer was number 1 on there approved list.
