Thai Beverage defers IPO plans for regional beer business on market uncertainty

(Reuters) - Thai Beverage said on Friday it was postponing its plans to sell a 20% stake in its regional beer business via a Singapore listing, citing uncertain market conditions and volatile outlook.

The spin-off by the company, controlled by one of Thailand's richest men, was set to be the largest initial public offering in the city-state in nearly a decade. Reuters had reported earlier that the IPO could raise about $2 billion.

The tough conditions, aggravated by a worsening COVID-19 pandemic in Thailand and other countries, were not conducive for the spin-off, the company said in a statement to the stock exchange.

Thai Beverage, whose beers include the popular Chang lager, said the proposed spin-off and listing would be reviewed "at the appropriate time" as it closely monitors market conditions to explore opportunities.

Controlled by tycoon Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi, Thai Beverage is one of Southeast Asia's largest makers of drinks and had targeted a mid-2020 listing, which got delayed due to the pandemic. The company said in February it was looking to spin-off its stake and list in Singapore.

I would swap out the popular and enter "available" !!

You have a larger business not a beer business! Try making Beer, not <deleted> larger, maybe your sales will increase.

I do miss a warm, flat, hoppy beer.......first thing I do when back in London.......a proper pub, no music, no TV, carpet sticks to your feet......can't beat it.

I miss it so mut but *Warm beer* is around 12c from the cellar and I love being able to drink a beer without the fizzy bloating gas.

Yes......not sure many 'kids' these days even know about proper beer....real ale......it annoys the hell out of me, publicans serving a decent beer at about 2c, fizzing with CO2.

Never did like those beers and guess never will. Real ale always made me fart and the last time I was back in the UK, 10 years ago, went to what was my local originally and without exception there was a chorus of voices yelling "watch out here comes that old fart again".  Just proves some people never forget me

So not much interest then? Mummy won't be very happy...

Still, own up... made you feel all good and warm and fuzzy to be recalled didn't it?

And I love being able to go into a pub with more than the Thai-style same-old same-old four of five beers on tap. Every single pub you go into will have at least one beer you haven't seen before. Bliss.

Last year I boycotted Chang beer as in Hua Hin at soi 99, the bars would only sell Chang and no Singha

beer.  My friends and I would go there and eat, but leave early as no beer, no reason to stay and listen

to the very loud bands when they started up the music at 9PM. We would head for soi 88, then back to our

apartments, condos and guest house rooms.  I hope I can get Singha when I return next year.

Geezer

He let go of a warm and fuzzy fart in appreciation.
