A village in the Prakhon chai district of Thailand’s northeastern province of Buri Ram was declared off-limits today, and the emergency ward of the district hospital was closed for three days, after it was discovered that a patient, who was admitted for treatment and subsequently died, was infected with COVID-19.

The 56-year old worked at a bar in the Sukhumvit area of Bangkok and had returned to his village with his wife on April 8th. He developed a cough on April 13th and went to a pharmacy in the village to buy medicine, but his condition worsened and he developed breathing difficulties during the night of April 17th, prompting his wife to call an ambulance.

The patient died upon arrival in the hospital’s emergency ward. A post mortem COVID-19 test was conducted which returned a positive result.

And there go, RIP his soul, but he had symptoms but didn't bother to get tested. Full extent known of covid infection in Thailand, hmmm?

I would imagine that the guy had severe underlying conditions to go downhill that quickly. Cough to death being 4 days.

Because Thailand has a mandatory hospital quarantine where they pack you up and ship you off to some building filled with 100's of other people and essentially lock you in there guarded by the Army and wont let you leave for a minimum of 2 weeks, it's noy surprising that Thais arnt in a rush to go get tested.

In terms of loss of income.. for sure! But in terms of the hospital quarantine and treatment is covered by the govt.

Yes I have all the evidence

It will be interesting from many angles to find out the number of excess deaths in 2020 and 2021 compared to 2017, 2018 and 2019.

As tragic as any death is, how many of the 100+ deaths 'with COVID' in the last 16 months might have occurred with a heavy dose of the flu? Given that most had underlying conditions, it's not unusual for some people to die in a normal year.

If I remember rightly, more than 300 people died from/with flu in Thailand in 2018. The number last year was surely significantly less as flu all but disappeared.

RIP .

There you go civid in the dead ,That's No excuse, he should've been tested sa soon as he got a Bad Cough on the 13th.

Of course covid has spread throughout the country, lots of people from so called red zones were allowed to travel home for songkran. What did the govt expect? covid didn't stop at the borders it went on holiday with everyone else.

This had been done last year with figures for March/April. There's a post in the news section somewhere. I think it came from a Thai newspaper. Can't remember the figures but there was about 1000 or so excess deaths for each month. Shortly after the Government dept that posts the death figures stopped releasing them and has not. Somebody mentioned the website recently in a post somewhere on TV.
