Big Bike Training

Featured Replies

I've been riding maxi scooters for over 20 years throughout Asia, Vietnam, Thailand and India (never been in an accident and take all required precautions in wearing protective clothing).. I am now looking how to learn to ride (shift) gears on the big bikes, as i am wanting to purchase a touring motorcycle, like the BMW 850GS.  Is there a school in Pattaya that i can attend for training?  Thanks

My opinion is you'd be advised to buy a scooter with manual transmission. You've got Yamaha Exciter, Suzuki Raider, Yamaha 155 and Kawasaki 175 plus other Chinese brands. Buy a used one and have at it learning to use clutch. I haven't heard of a big bike class.

Mityon has a basic class for Motorcycle License, maybe they could do a class for you.

If you have been riding for 20 years then the only difference is the clutch. gear shift and rear braking. That doesn't take long. The braking can be learnt on a Wave and the clutch gear shift on the bikes listed above.

You can always learn.

I have even more experience riding in various countries,  both big and small.

Yet I still picked up a few things when I took the advanced rider course in the US. I had a 1200 cc touring bike at the time.

There is a rider course in Chiang Mai,  I don't know the details though.  There should be something in Bangkok too.

A search through Facebook may come up with something.

I advise everyone to take such courses.  A good instructor will actually take you through some scenarios.
