I tired a few of those Heineken 0.0 but to no avail..

 

Needless to say I've just been to the shop and got 4 cans of proper beer..

also the vegetarian thing has gone out the window already.

If Thai beer tasted good, I suspect that I might be an alcoholic here. But as most of the beer just tastes like pond water mixed with preservatives, I find it very easy to stay tee-total.

 

If only they sold Timothy Taylor's Landlord in Thailand, it would be a perfect place to retire.

Same here, it has quite a neutral tastes and considering the 30% bump in alcohol content, it's good value. Still, I would give it a 4/10 at best.

 

Chang, Leo and Singha, are what we referred to back home as "cooking lagers". Only suitable for cooking a beef in beer casserole, and certainly not good enough for drinking.

Sweet taste? I can only assume you are drinking an expensive, imported beer. With Thai beers I get a bouquet of industrial chemicals, the mouthfeel of the urine of a rodent, and a delicate and not quite so delightful aftertaste of cat vomit. Just don't ask how I know what these things are like, I was a bit crazy when I was a student.

Chang used to be lethal back in the day when I drank. 3 large for a 100 baht, and was 8.6%, stronger than now. 3 of them before hitting the pub saved me a fortune. 

Would never touch Leo or other beers less than 5%, what's the point? Some of us alkies  only really drink for the effects.

A lot of expats end up drinking themselves to death in Thailand or Cambodia. A friend of mine dad died at age 66.

It is actually very easy to stop drinking with the help of Baclofen.

What about bar girls? Do a lot of bar girls drink themselves to death? I was only in Thailand on vacation and it occurred to me that these girls need to drink a lot to earn a living. Must be hard on the body to spend 362 days a year in a bar?

I don't know about the bar girls, but i think many take yaba.  The Farang retirees have the money and too much time on their hands. They are outside of their culture and don't know what to do all day, so they end up drinking too much.  Alcohol is particularly harmful to people under the age of 18 and over the age of 65. It damages the brains.

The only problem with Baclofen is it is not recommend for people with psychiatric illness, depression or suffering from psychosis. So it is best to consult a Dr. before starting the treatment.

I don't remember it ever being that strong. On my first visit to Thailand it was 6.4%.

I have long periods every year when I go dry. The first week just feels so boring but after that you don't even think about it. See if you can make 3 weeks then re-evaluate how you are feeling.

That would rule out alcoholism, which is a psychiatric disease. 

I was always a heavy drinker until a few years ago, when I stumbled upon a beverage that ticks all the boxes ............
