No improvement in numbers today.

Still no testing figures and I suspect there's little impetus to test or reveal more at this stage.

My guess is the infected numbers will plateau but the death toll will keep increasing.

Time for Thai Airways to dust of their rusty old fleet and send Thais abroad to get their jabs, any place would be faster, Zimbabwe?

Friday's COVID report marks the fourth straight day of 30 or more COVID deaths in Thailand, a new record, and puts the country on track to hit the 100,000 total COVID cases mark in the next several days.

Once again, as has often been the case lately, the daily number of new COVID cases, at 2,256, is far exceeding the 1,701 COVID patients having been released from hospitalization. That continues to put more pressure on the country's hospital system, especially around Bangkok, where most of the new cases are being reported. Total COVID cases since the start of the pandemic reached 96,050.

The total number of hospitalized patients rose markedly to 33,186 as shown in the light blue shaded box below, mainly because of the addition of yesterday's major tally of prison cases in Bangkok. But the numbers of critically ill patients and the share of those on ventilators remained basically flat, reaching 1,203 (-6) and 408 (+2), respectively.

The latest rolling seven-day average charts of daily COVID cases and deaths in Thailand, updated through May 12. The cases trend chart has yet to reflect the record 4,887 new cases reported yesterday, but does show the country's COVID daily COVID deaths rising into pandemic record high levels.

It seems the death numbers have begun to do the Thai festering flatline thing as well.

This is not getting any better. As far as Covid in prisons, Just YouTube Thailand prisons. Most of them are wall to wall prisoners along with guards and staff. Would not be surprised to see everyone in Prison test positive

Thailand gets a step closer to being able to offer the highly regarded Moderna COVID vaccine through at least some of the country's private hospitals.

Thailand today is opening the a 1,200 bed field hospital for COVID patients at Challenger Hall, Impact Muang Thong Thani, in Nonthaburi province in a bid to ease the mounting pressure of COVID cases on traditional hospitals in the Bangkok region.

The facility will be equipped with portable x-ray units and ventilators, and officials say it is capable of being expanded to up to 5,000 total beds if needed. The field hospital is being opened in what normally is one of the country's largest convention hall/exhibit space arenas.

The field hospital has been set up with extensive remote monitoring of COVID patients, in order to minimize the risk of spreading the virus to health care workers and care for a large population of patients.

The only positive is that we don't have to listen to Anutin sprouting his predictions that this would all be normalized within 2 to 3 weeks as he did 3 weeks ago.

He needs a new crystal ball to polish me thinks and learn to listen to his own experts who predicted this sorry state of affairs through science but were totally ignored. Now we have this sad and tragic state of affairs. There's still time to put in measures to combat this but we've been harping that same tune for weeks.

The Private Hospital Association is now working with the government in a bid to present Thais with vaccine brand alternatives and boost efforts to achieve herd immunity. Prospective choices include the Moderna, Novavax, Sinopharm, and Bharat Biotech.

Zimbabwe is apparently faster at this point. According to the FT's vaccine tracker, as of 11 May Zimbabwe has provided 4.8 vaccine single doses per 100 residents.  As of 12 May, Thailand is just ahead of Ghana, providing 2.9 single vaccine doses per 100 residents.  https://ig.ft.com/coronavirus-vaccine-tracker/?areas=gbr&areas=isr&areas=usa&areas=eue&cumulative=1&populationAdjusted=1

Is today when we should expect an announcement about whether the closures that were up to 17 May will be extended, or whether parks, pools & gyms, cinemas, and restaurants for dine-in can re-open on 18 May?

I hope you're not trying to hold your breath! My guess the announcement will be made on the 17th May or June if they remember.

I think english have good saying - to defecate otherwise to get off the potty. Thailand  is taking 1/2 measure that are not effective and that prolong the misery. Either do proper restriction of activity for 30 days with testing and vaccinating in hot zones or just stop this nonsense of threatening beach goers for not wearing mask, or small social bubble gathering. The government wants to do a little bit of this and a little bit of that, and all it does it make a bigger.

WHO Urged to Reform After Panel Finds Failures Worsened Pandemic

The World Health Organization should be overhauled and given more authority to investigate global disease threats, according to a review of the international Covid-19 response that found a myriad of failures, gaps, and delays allowed the coronavirus to mushroom into a pandemic.

While stopping short of assigning blame to any particular factor, the report released Wednesday by an independent panel co-chaired by former New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark linked the severity of the global outbreak to deficiencies across governments, the WHO and other multilateral organizations, and regulations that guide official actions.

The panel also called for an agreement to waive vaccine patents, limited terms for WHO leaders, and an oversight body and legally binding treaty to bolster the prevention and response to future pandemics. The international system, the panel said, remains unfit to avoid another disease from spiraling into one matching Covid-19, which threatens to cost the world economy $22 trillion by 2025.

As I said yesterday already.. today around 2000 new cases , but the prisons will make it look worse... So don't worry they are in prison and no danger but we can continue with around 2000 a day

  • Popular Post

These numbers will go on forever they are not testing enough so they can't isolate. So nothing will change until enough people are vaccinated. Too bad for dining out, gyms, bars, massages and all the fun things. Even having people over at home can be a problem in some provinces.

I doubt that this will change in the next 1 to 2 months. Now we are experiencing what people in many other countries have experienced. Before we had quite a bit of freedom in Thailand now its gone because of some people in bars plus songkran.

I am happy i finally brought my home gym over from my old house. I doubt gyms will be open anytime soon. This will crush the economy.

Unless they really test really isolate and rollout the vaccines faster non of the things that are fun can be done.

Same crazy remark as yesterday.

People who work in prisons are not immune to covid. They are easy to infect and will spread it on. Unless you think they really take precautions like PPE suits and so on (i doubt it). People are also being released from prisons on a dayly base so they add to the population too. Just imagine a few untested infected prisoners going home.

So keep your blinders up and ignore it if it makes you feel better. But logical it is not.

Please explain me than why suddenly since this week there is a split between the normal cases and prison cases.....

So it does not look so bad, so the Thai government looks less like a fool then they are. That is not hard to explain.

Prison cases are a big risk unless nobody moves in or out (but people do guards and even prisoners that are released). So these people come from a high risk area into the normal population. You think that is not a risk ?

No they are not, but you still don't get it. Now it is known it was a risk before but an outbreak in a prison multiplies like crazy and has the potential to infect far more people then in areas where you can isolate. Have you seen the overcrowding in Thai prisons.

So you got a hot spot with people moving in and out and unless they get it under control more and more of these people will infect people outside the prison system.

So stop acting like the people in the prison system are on some deserted island with no contact or way to infect others.

The more people are infected there the larger the chance of it being spread from there then it is now. So unless these prison numbers go down its a risk and a problem.
