I bought a bike from my friend. He has moved overseas for 6 months, (Has a wife and kids here) and I needed a bike. It was a reasonable deal until this>>>>>>>>> I have 15 papers and copies all signed. I have the green book, I even have video of the money exchange. I have copies of his house yellow book. What I do not have is a residency certificate from the seller. Apparently even if he gets a certificate from his home country, and mails it to me,  that is not enough.  I have only asked 2 agents. They both told me the same thing. Any ideas? Too important a paper to have any and all agents tell me no? Anything I could use as a substitute? Yes, I should have triple checked the document requirements, but I didn't. Head in sand now... Thank you!

A residency certificate (Letter of Residence from Immigration or Affirmation of Residence from Embassy) is *not required to sell a vehicle and the seller does not need to be present.

[*Not required at DLT Bangkok]

You will need a signed Power of Attorney document giving you permission to transfer the Motorcycle into your name.

The two forms attached (Power of Attorney and Vehicle Transfer form) are required (If I’m not mistake its the same form for a Motorcycle or Car)

No need to use agents.

Just get both forms filled out (may need some Thai assistance with the Vehicle transfer form).

Go down to the DLT with the following:

1) YOUR Letter of Residence

2) Copy of Passport

3) Green Registration Book (signed by seller)

4) Power of Attorney (to transfer the motorcycle without the original owners presence)

5) Vehicle Transfer form

6) Signed Copy of Sellers Passport (ID Page)

NOTE: IF the DLT is demanding a copy of the Seller’s Letter of Residence (proof of address) then instead they should accept a Signed Copy of the Exit Stamp (from Thailand) in their Passport.

If the DLT/agent insists on this bit of paper

you could just keep riding it around  taxed and insured  until your friend returns

with no problems,   unless you want to sell the bike.

As said above they should except a signed copy of your friends exit from Thailand stamp in passport along with ( probably) the photo page.
