Hi

During the year my Passport needed renewal last time and I did my extension of stay they put my extension for one year (minus consideration month) in the Passport (Mid May) even if the Passport was supposed to expire after 8 months, And then they just moved the stamp and date to the new passport so I got a full year of renewal.

Today I got my Passport back from Consideration month and Permission to stay is only to beginning of February 2022 when my passport expire.  I ask the firm help me with the extension if Immigration did something wrong, and they say in February we can apply for a new year, with the must to redo all the paperwork and costs that comes with that, Including new fee to the company that does the work for me.

With hopefully the need to travel as soon as possible. I would need to renew my passport the upcoming months because of the 6 months validity rules and it seams to force me to renew My extension of Stay in August or September when I get the new passport? or when I get a new passport in September will they then move the stamp to the expiration date from my old Passport to the new passport In beginning of February? or Will they stamp to Mid May?

If I have to redo when I get the new passport I will loose about 8 months and if they Only move the stamp to Feb I loose almost 4 months, and I guess this will happen again every 5 years when my Passport Expire.

Anyone know how this works?

Cheers,

The rules were changed in August of 2013. If your passport has less than one year remaining your extension is only issued to the day it expires.

When you get your new passport you will have to apply for a new extension when it ends.

So If I understand it right They move my stamp to the new passport with expire in February, or can I just skip to transfer the stamps until February and I Renew again?

You should have your stamps transferred shortly after getting your new passport.

They will transfer the shortened extension stamp and do a annotation with info about you old passport and the visa used when that a gave the permit to stay you have been extending.

For people who are on long-term extensions of stay, it's very easy.

Renew your passport on the earlier of these two dates:

date_extension_expires - 30 days - processing_time_to_get_new_passport

or

date_passport_expires - 30 days - processing_time_to_get_new_passport

Most embassies recommend getting a new passport at least 6 months before your old one expires as some countries require 6-month validity remaining on your passport when you enter the country.
