INN reported that officers from the Mekong Riverine Unit, local police and other units staked out the river in the area of the village of Ban Lao Nat in Nakhon Phanom on Saturday night.

They had received a tip that a boatload of drugs was being brought across from a "neighboring country".

This is Laos, notes Thaivisa.

The searchlights were out and identified a suspect boat with 6-8 men onboard.

After docking on the Thai side every one of them managed to escape into the darkness because of their "local knowledge" said INN.

The authorities put this minor mishap behind them safe in the knowledge that they now had 380 packets of compressed marijuana "taken in as evidence".

Each pack weighed in at a kilo.
