webfact
By Goong Nang(GN) Pattaya – The Pattaya City Deputy Mayor visited a stray dog shelter in the Pong sub-district, Banglamung where there are not enough roofs for the 600 stray dogs that stay at the shelter. Additionally, Pattaya City will not catch any more stray dogs unless the dog in question is aggressive and attacks people, but will sterilize them instead as a general policy according to the Deputy Mayor. The Pattaya City Deputy Mayor Manot Nongyai yesterday (June 23rd) visited the dog shelter in Ban Klongyai in Pong. More than 600 stray dogs stay at the shelter, many of them described as previously having reported incidents of aggression or being a nuisance, and were caught and brought to the shelter as a result, according to Manot. Mr. Manot told Pattaya News Reporters “The Sanguanchart Sornkrai Foundation used to take care of the dog shelter with a partnership between Pattaya City for many years.” Full story: https://thepattayanews.com/2021/06/24/pattaya-stray-dog-shelter-needs-help-after-pattaya-city-takes-over-the-full-responsibility-of-running-the-shelter/ -- © Copyright The Pattaya News 2021-06-24 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates

Popular Post harada
Considering this “government’s “ shambolic response to the pandemic give it another 6 months or more and there won’t be many stray dogs running around. ???????? 2

Popular Post mikebell
There is an overspill site; it's called Greenfield Villas 2. Dogs are made most welcome and encouraged to bark throughout the night and allowed to roam free to defecate every where. 3

Popular Post Speedo1968
I notice from all the comments that no one blames the person who had a house dog but failed to treat them as family ad let them loose. If owners took more responsibility in the first place to neuter and vaccinate ( govt could pay ? ) their house dogs it would go a long way to solving the problem. 5 2

It's all about maximum money in, for minimum money out, here. They just don't get it that high end tourists not only want a nice hotel, but decent infrastructure surrounding it. Until that happens, Pattaya will continue to attract sex tourists and cheap package holiday tourists, nothing more. 2

The monks. You want to abandon your dog you go do it around a temple. I cycle regularly, in the morning, and have to navigate monks being given food by villagers on the roadside. Far too much food for the monks to consume. And what do we get with those monks? Soi dogs, who follow the monks back to the temples who then offload bucket loads of food that they've just been given by the village idiots. The monks are the problem. They should only take enough food for their own consumption. 2

Popular Post Boedog
Why not use common sense and euthanise them, no one owns them no one wants them, maybe the money spent feeding and looking after them could be better spent on the homeless people in Pattaya, they are bigger problems than stray dogs, eradicate the problem 6

Popular Post Eindhoven
Really disgusting comments by foreigners about Thailand here. Some of you should really consider going back to your home countries if you are so unhappy with everything. Within months you will be chomping at the bit to come back. No wonder you are viewed in such lowly terms by the natives. You always think that you know better and that your ways are superior. Ingratitude is viewed as the lowest of the low here. Be careful. 1 2 1 1

Wuvu2
The Pattaya Soi Dog Sterilization Project has sterilized 7,000 street dogs in the last 3 years. The sterilization is privately funded by the Soi Dog Foundation, but requires the help of neighborhood people to identify, capture and transport the animals. Darting and transporting the animals costs 500/baht per dog and done by the people at animalarmy.org. Anyone currently feeding Soi Dogs knows the local dogs the best and you can be very helpful in identifying animals to be spayed. Everyone else - please consider making a donation to help get more animals sterilized. PM me for more info ???? I'm not sure the problem is greater out in the sticks, but here's some info on sterilization programs. The Pattaya Project is part of a national program of the Soi Dog Foundation. https://www.soidog.org/ The run programs in many areas of Thailand. Also there are reginal and local efforts by a number of other groups. Sterilization is the only reasonable approach to the problem. Give Google a shot to find resources near you. 1
IvorBiggun2
1 hour ago, Boedog said: Why not use common sense and euthanise them Does common sense exists in Thailand? Quote A small minority of pet care professionals may consider performing euthanasia with the knowledge that they have to accept the taking on of the negative karma may impact their own rebirth. In consideration of a Vet for example, this may be many hundreds of deaths throughout their entire career. A burden which many are not prepared to carry. This makes euthanasia a big issue with Buddhist pet caregivers. Some Buddhists just like the Thai Buddhists allow their pet suffer to their last breath no matter how severe the pain is due to teachings which include 'to cut short an animal's suffering prevents them from extinguishing their karma leading to poor rebirth'.
