The chief of police in Prachuap Khiri Khan province Maj-Gen Wanchai Tharanatham acted after a clip that attracted much attention online that showed two boys lying down on motorbikes and racing along the Petchkasem Highway in the Bang Saphan area.

Two 14 year olds were soon in custody. Their bikes were confiscated.

The boys were charged with negligent riding without thought of the safety of other road users.

Their parents were also called in and charged under regulations related to not looking after their children properly.

Next it was a prosecution for the Thap Sakae bike shop that illegally modified their vehicles, reported New 18 TV.

Maj-Gen Wanchai said it was the RTP chief Gen Suwat Chaengyodsuk's policy to crack down on illegal street racers, reported New TV

He urged people to call 1599 or 191 with information and reminded the public they can get 3,000 baht for tips that lead to prosecutions.

The boys were charged with.............................    What about maybe too young , no driving licence .   The parents shoud have been broken up along with the bikes and chucked in a skip.

Hard to see if there are plates on these bikes.

I have seen this kind of racing a lot on the local highway here, nobody seems to give a

.....

Good idea to make the parents pay as well as the shop that sells parts to modify

these bikes.

There is a place for racing and it is not the highway!

Almost a daily event here in the evenings when the majority of the RTP  from a Police  Station just 500 meters down the road are off duty for the day !

Excellent work by the BiB. Fine these kids, parents and shop hurtful sums of money. Impound they bikes or smash them up. Kids like these drive past my house every day.... I should film them, I guess.

They seem to have talent. Support them and make them real racers. This is how it starts to become a track hero. And to all the whingers: back to your blue roofed cave and cheap beer.

I never allow me to talk about stupidity, but there you have the asset of a pretentious person, without brain, like "me, I know everything"
I do not wish you to find, nose to face, with those you are calling future heroes.
You lack reflection.

Sorry but can not agree ! One of these suicidal dropkicks passed me as I was pulling into a parking space. A split second slower and he would have been punted into the  car parked ahead. Head down and obviously assuming a clear path for high speed underpassing . No helmet, no shoes, no brain !

If you don't like it, report it.

True. Racing is just too cool.

Spending hours watching people with a death wish riding around in circles is my idea of a good time. If some of them die it's even more entertaining.

Maybe if the youth had more things to do they would not be doing this crazy racing. Where I live the youth are so bored with nothing to do and nowhere to go. The lack of jobs and no money. I have talked to some and it's very sad. We need things to get back to normal, soon.

You may be right, no jobs, no money, nothing to do all the day .....
But they are 14-year-old kids and not "job seekers".
And even if these job seekers were in the aim of finding a job, do you think they would have fun to spend money they do not have, on motorcycles.

Really? Yet these unemployed uneducated  youths with nothing to do  or places to go can find the money to spend tricking up motorbikes ( many stolen) with varying degrees of " performance " modifications which start with the primitive destruction of silencing  baffles in exhaust systems then moving on to a custom exhaust with megaphone capacity then to removal of mirrors and plastic shrouds( ostensibly under the pretext of air drag resistance reduction ) then on to enhanced electronic ignition/fuel injection systems then on to mechanical cam shaft fitting with or without head machining for increased  valve porting/compression  ratios etc etc all happily provided  by one of many motorcycle shops. Then once each stage is achieved then pour copious amounts of fuel into to go out and prove "my" Honda etc that my parents  are still paying the credit on can beat "yours" in a downhill  run over a selected  piece of public highway  !! Couple that with the rising use of drug abuse within the same participants !

So where does the money come from to achieve this sad and relatively expensive alternative to  working or otherwise?

People who are genuinely poor have no capacity to honestly invest in pi**ing  money into exhaust  fumes for no productive purpose !

Talent for causing injury to others? Why is there a need to make them "real" racers? How about make them contributing members of Thai society? For every ignorant stupid person like this are the Thai kids who are disciplined, considerate of others and who volunteer to help others. Maybe you don't see them, but I do. Some Thai kids at this age want to be star football player, or to work on cure for disease, or to work hard to take care of family or to bring help to environment or their community. This is a phase for some kids. Most leave it behind when family and community says to stop being a jerk.

14 year olds have as much to do today as they did before pandemic. Are they stopped from sports activity? Reading a book? From visiting and helping family? Was their education stopped? The 14 year olds if they worked, can still work today. I don't talk to 14 year old boys but I am aware that  the kids were complaining about money  and being bored  long before Covid and such a condition is not Thai specific. Kids have been saying this for generations. I see teenage boys doing what teenage boys have done since the dawn of time, being stupid.

For these idiots this is normal

Street sweeping duties for the racers would be a good activity.

Confiscated? The bikes should have been crushed publicly.

Will the support extend to paying the medical costs of the herbert who pitched in here last week, and for that matter those of the two children he hit?

The <deleted> went roaring down the main road flat out, as usual, straight past the busy village shops, making enough noise to wake the dead, swung into a soi much too fast and wide, and hit two children.

At the moment it is peaceful as his bike is a wreck. No doubt he will patch it up, and sooner or later kill himself and someone else.

Support them my fundemental orifice!
