Phuket sandbox for retirement visa holders

Featured Replies

I am informed today, that I need COVID insurance for almost the entire year (until my re-entry permit date, March 2022).

My travel agent says it will cost 24,800 baht!  Has anyone else encountered this problem? Any thoughts?

I wonder if I go the ASQ route if the same requirement would apply. Damn, it costs more than my hotel for two weeks.

Desperate for help.

On the insurance web site mentioned in one of the posts it state the country name for Thailand offers Thailand (renewal) what does this mean?

I believe that the Covid insurance MUST cover you until the expiration of your current Visa expiration.

Let us know if you can purchase the covid

insurance Only for the duration of stay (e.g. leave 1 month later after arrival, only purchase for the month in LOS).

IMHO the insurance companies should give a huge DISCOUNT for VACCINATED people!

After all this was and is the goal to reopening...NOT ongoing fleecing of people that might possibly test positive later in life.

Otherwise we will be paying for this covid ins. the remainder of our lives!

Cheers

When you arrive you will be stamped in for period of stay. That's determined by if it's non o visa or whatever. If it's a non O you will be stamped in for 90 days.

Your insurance will need to cover 90 days.

In the OP's case he's arriving with a re-entry permit so he will be stamped in for the balance of his year long extension of stay until "the length of stay until" date stamped in his re-entry permit.  He would need Covid insurance to cover that entire period (until his extension of stay expires).

Exactly.

I'm not sure that there is a minimum time for policies.

If someone for example only had month left on reentry permit ....what time for insurance is required. Surely insurance policies have minimum  time?

I haven't looked into it but from other's comments I get the impression there are standard periods of time: 3 months, 6 months, 1 year.  You would be able to get the shortest one that covers your permission to stay.

My case is the same...

I am on an extension non O renentry permit to return and will need covid insurance right up to the date stamped next June...correct?

Yes

Emirates has a deal where if you fly with them they offer you free Covid-19 insurance.  https://www.emirates.com/us/english/before-you-fly/multi-risk-travel-insurance/

For covid 19 insurance from the TGIA website it sold for 30, 60 and 120 days or 6 and 12 months.

And the premium is based on your point of flight origin, not your age. My quote was 4,480 baht for 60 days from the Philippines, but half of that if I was flying from Australia.

It's based on risk factors.

Philippines is in the 'red' listed Countries for entry to Thailand.

You couldn't enter if you wanted to, only those from 'green' and 'amber' listed Countries allowed entry.

You will need covid 19 insurance for your length of stay. It doesn't matter where you stay after arriving.

Look here and compare the cost with what you were quoted. https://www.tipinsure.com/CovidRegional/product_detail

Thanks Joe for the link and the 60 day quote was competitive at 4480 baht however the exclusions seem to exclude any precondition that may or may not have been connected to a covid illness which knowing how insurance companies will try everything not to pay out  is a concern . Also the statement below , does that  apply to those with a non o retirement extension and a re-entry permit ?

“ For Visa type : Non-O (Retirement), Long Stay O-A, O-X , STV , a separate Health Insurance Policy is required. The limit sum insured for In-Patient is not less than THB 400,000 and for Out-Patient is not less than THB 40,000 ”

This is the only exclusions I see on the site.

I see nothing at about preconditions other than quack medicines  and treatments of other illness or exams not related to covid 19.

That depends upon the embassy or consulate where your apply for the COE. Most do not ask for if you are on a extension of a non-o visa entry based upon retirement.

There are two different health insurance requirements, one for $100,000 covid insurance, and one as listed in the quoted text above.  Everyone entering Thailand needs the first for covid.  Only those mentioned in the quoted text above need the second.  The two requirements could be satisfied by the same insurance policy, or by separate ones.

It would be a different insurance policy. If you need it there is list of insurers you can select on the other website mentioned.
