The Centre for Covid Situation Administration spokesman has defended the timing of the announcement of new rules that sealed construction camps in the Thai capital Bangkok.

There was huge criticism as workers who got wind of the impending announcement took off for the countryside - something that the government and CCSA were trying to avoid, notes Thaivisa.

Dr Taveesilp Visanuyotin said that the new restrictions had to follow the law and be fit for purpose so they could be used correctly by the authorities.

This took time so it was not until late on Saturday night until it was sorted.

He claimed that Thais enjoy a measure of personal freedom based around the law but now asked for people to pull together for the benefit of all.

He reiterated that the latest restrictions referred to big and small construction camps and the BTS construction that would also cease.

The plan is to shut down construction for 30 days in an effort to restrict further spread of Covid-19.

But as workers took off up-country ahead of the announcement that turned into what Daily News said was the latest "drama".

Since when is this a requirement in the Government?

Very stupid excuse from a smart man who is the public face and symbol of fighting the pandemic.

Weekend exodus should not have been allowed under any circumstances because it defeated the purpose of the latest restrictions and would no doubt spread the virus to all provinces thus prolonging the recovery process and causing many avoidable deaths in coming days and weeks.

for more accurate headline, perhaps remove that first "l" in last word?

Commonly known as a f#$% up

Sadly, the Thai administration seems to have a complete inability to plan forward or anticipate issues that might arise and take action in good time!

Ever seen them lock bank workers in a bank?  How about locking government workers into government offices?  No.  Me neither.  The target is always factory workers and construction workers.

Why?  Keep the commoners in line.  Show them who's boss.

At the local level I know what happens if someone from Bangkok ends up in our village.  Everyone knows.  They are quarantined and watched.  It's not taken lightly at the village level.
The central government are a bunch of buffoons.  They are talk and hot-air and little else.  They screwed up during Songkran and they are doing it again.  Just as if that's the plan.

Italy did the same thing early in the pandemic last year. Officials announced the closing of several hard hit northern states days before the action and the train stations and roads were crammed with people people leaving for other parts of the country. Covid-19 then ravaged the whole of the country in the immediate weeks/months following the closure.    it was like closing the barn door after the cow has gotten out.

if it is printed in the Royal Gazette....it is perfect. Otherwise it is only speculation.

Yeah.  They would if the government put barb-wire around the building, lock the doors, and post guards.  But they'd never do that which is my point.
