Can TM28 be filed with local police?

Featured Replies

I just moved provinces and currently in self isolation for 14 days.

Ordinarily we would have been out and about in town getting settled, and would have happily visited immigration, but we aren’t allowed.

Can I get the local police to come to the gate and tie the paper to a brick? Or maybe the village head or landlady have some kind of obligation to file the paperwork.

I don’t want to be in a situation where it costs me money. Normally I would adjust the dates to suit, but I can’t really do that now as its widely known there is an isolation period.

The police probably would not accept a TM28 form and immigration would have no record of it being done. The correct from for a change of address is a TM27 form now.

Most immigration offices now want a TM30 report done now for a change of address.

Since you are in quarantine that means you cannot go to immigration. I am sure they would not fine you for a late TM30 report. The home owner is really the person responsible for doing it.

Mail it in to your local office.

Good thinking .. one snag.

I’m not allowed out of the gate.

Bit of a mad situation - there is a corner shop at the end of the drive and she refuses to walk up the drive for 5 mins to drop a bag of ice at the gate for fear of catching the plague.

So I’m a bit forked at the moment, a lot of eyes are on us.

I think the nearest post office is about 25 mins bike ride, so it kind of defeats the object, might as well (not) infect immigration queue rather than (not’ infect everyone at the post office.

I was thinking that the police might be a bit of a token gesture that didn’t involve a lot of effort. If there was any issue, I could explain “well I filed it with the local police”

So what do you suggest @ubonjoe - don’t bother? wait?  Put the onus on the landlady?

You could wait and do it with proof you were in home quarantine.

Or you could ask the the landlady to complete the form and then submit it or have somebody do it.

Sounds like a plan.

My motto has always been, always put off anything till tomorrow that you could do today.

Thanks @ubonjoe

There is no need to do a TM28 for you.

You or your landlord have to do a TM30 for you, but this can be done by mail.

At some offices I would say.

First laugh of the day....cheers for that.

My question pertaining address change ....is not the case that immigration would be sending u back to yr origin location for the 90 days report had u not resided 6 months at yr new place?

Cheers

They would not do that.

If you failed to change your address they could fine you for not doing it.
