BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand's health ministry said on Sunday more than 600 medical workers who received two doses of China's Sinovac vaccine have been infected with COVID-19, as authorities weigh giving booster doses to raise immunity.

Phuket tightens controls on arrivals from COVID-19 high-risk provinces

Thailand’s resort island of Phuket has decided to tighten travel restrictions on people arriving from the 10 “maximum controlled and restricted” and the 24 “maximum controlled” zone provinces from Thursday until the end of the month, to control the spread of COVID-19.

880 medics infected with COVID-19 in the past three months, seven died

880 medical personnel, about 54% of them nurses and assistant nurses, were infected with COVID-19 between April 1st and July 10th, and of these, seven have died, according to Dr. Sophon Iamsirsithavorn, deputy director-general of Disease Control Department.

Thai Revenue Department denies charging VAT on vaccines bought by private hospitals

The Revenue Department has dismissed, as groundless, a report widely circulated on social media that it is charging value-added tax (VAT) on COVID-19 vaccines being procured by private hospitals, through the Government Pharmaceutical Organization, and that the tax burden will be passed on to members of the public.

Sinovac vaccine barely effective against Alpha or Delta COVID-19 variants

Antibody tests, among staff at the Thai Red Cross Emerging Infectious Diseases Health Science Centre at the Faculty of Medicine of Chulalongkorn University, who were fully inoculated with the Chinese-made Sinovac vaccine, show rapid reduction of antibody levels, from 90% during the initial stage, to between 30% and 40%, said Dr. Thiravat Hemachudha, head of the centre, on his Facebook post Sunday.

Troops swift to block routes out of Bangkok ahead new lockdown on Monday
