How to travel by boat/ cruise from Thailand to Britain

Recommended Posts

Singapore to UK would be easy. Lots of cargo ships have "owners" cabins which, if the owner is not on board...

We used to carry up to 6 passengers to South America. Not the quickest method but...

Quality of cabin depends on the vessel. Same for food.

Container ships don't have a lot of open deck space.

Take more than a few books

What was the cost ?

A good few years since I investigated.......but it was eye-watering.

I thought at the time what a brilliant way to travel the world (for me anyway)........one look at the price and the idea died a death.

Cruise industry pretty much on life support, but if you look at the round the world itineraries, I'm sure you can customise the start and end points when/if they start running again.   You'll be limited a bit by the number of cruises that call on Phuket and Lamchambang though.

There are not many cargo ships going directly from Bkk to US or Europe. Most of them leaving Bkk are feeders for reloading the containers in Singapore. Therefore, it would be more useful to get by train to Singapore and board there. All info about the forwarding companies and the ship schedules are on internet.

How did you deal with stowaways ?

What would you do if you found someone hiding in the life boats ?

Put them in the same stalls as the deck cargo polo ponies!

Retired ships Master carting Containers..We would have occasional passengers or supernumeraries as they where called. Paying just to get from A to B and that's all you got. No extra service just a room and 3 meals a day. The corona is probably scaring shipping companies now and I doubt if they would take the risk anymore.

Indeed. And I ain't a young man looking for adventure. A cruise would do...without too many stop offs..

If the boat journey doesn't work out or you feel like it might be too cramped, a guy called Ray McDonald did a TV program travelling from Bangkok to Brighton UK by train. He travelled From Bangkok to Vientiane by train, then bus to Hanoi, bus to China, then by train through China, Russia, eastern Europe, Germany, and France. Ray, despite his name, is a luk krung Thai TV and movie star.  The videos are on youtube.  Most of it is in Thai but once he gets to China there is more English spoken.

Tramp steamer?? Probably a few centuries ago... 5555

I traveled by tramp steamer from Europe  to Africa in the 90s. The Med could be fierce.  My first  travel as a teen was crossing from Great  Britain  to Europe  via ferry on the English Channel.  Also could be rough.

WOW , https://www.cargoshipvoyages.com/ is a disappointing eye opener !

I thought this was the way out for the ones that don't want the so called "vaccines" and won't be able to fly without a covid passport.

Few ship to where I want to go , no pets allowed > I want to take my cats to europe . Takes longer than I thought . Prices are very high , I even wanted to take my thai car with me back , not to drive because that isn't allowed .

So now we have to wait until the chinese silkroad is finished to drive back ?

Bummer !
