BANGKOK (NNT) - The Health authority has warned that vaccination providers will deny service to anyone who falsifies their age to get an earlier position in the queue for senior citizens, despite them already having a valid appointment.

The Central Vaccination Center at Bang Sue Grand Station in Bangkok has reported a number of vaccination appointments made by people falsifying their age when registering, hoping to secure a spot in the quota for citizens aged 60 and over.

The Department of Medical Services has announced that any person who falsifies their age when making an appointment will be turned away at the vaccination center, after ID card checks reveal the individuals true age, as available vaccines are currently being allocated to senior citizens and those with underlying health conditions who are at a much higher risk of death from COVID-19.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s Safe Bangkok vaccination campaign, has started accepting vaccination bookings from residents of Bangkok aged 60 years or older, born before 17th July 1961.

Meanwhile, all appointments for people aged 18-59 years old, who were the main target of the Safe Bangkok campaign initially, have been postponed indefinitely.

The campaign managers say this change in eligibility is in line with the latest vaccination policy to prioritize elders and people with underlying diseases, while giving an assurance the postponed appointments for younger people will be reconfirmed once City Hall receives more vaccine supplies.

My Thai relative today posted this photo on FB. She's in her early thirties and works in food industry as an office worker, her husband is a young army guy. She has no comorbidity, lives close to BKK. And I've seen so many young people that are my Facebook friends bragging and posting on FB when getting a jab. There is definitely something wrong with the inoculation strategy. It's called acquaintances and corruption.

Up to 100 people in Bangkok pose as elderly in attempt to get vaccinated

Up to 100 people have been caught posing as the elderly in an attempt to get vaccinated at Bang Sue Grand Station, Bangkok’s main vaccination site for people aged 60 and over.

Many entered the incorrect age when they registered for vaccination through Thailand’s four main mobile phone operators and received an SMS or QR code containing their vaccination appointments.

Once they arrived for their appointments, however, their real age was discovered and they were turned away without getting inoculated, according to Dr. Mingkwan Wichaidit, who runs the vaccination site.

But the fact Thailand is so short of vaccines in BKK that they're deferring all vaccine appointments for those under 60 is a SAD indictment of the current state of affairs.

They are not deferring "all" vaccine appointments for those under 60.There is a quota for the elderly and a queue for those 60 and over and that's the queue some are trying to jump. They are still vaccinating under 60's in the army for instance and any body with connections and money and those Thais in clusters in Thai factories etc.

Just get it done and procure more vaccines so the process can get rolling along and those that want to be vaccinated can.  It does not take a rocket scientist to understand why these people want to be vaccinated.  Whose fault is it anyway mister PM and company.

I have a theory that in hierarchical societies, be they at either end of the spectrum from fascist to socialist, where the elite is under a different rule of law than everyone else,  eventually almost everyone in that culture becomes corrupt. We saw it in Eastern Europe, I've seen it in Vietnam, it's everywhere.

And Thailand is different how? <laughs>  Corruption permeates the entire social structure from top to bottom.  Don't get me wrong.  There are some good, moral people.  But they are an anomaly.

Now the truth, Thailand is running out of vaccines ( except for Sinovac) and is looking for any excuse it can to stop vaccinations. They probably found 1 or 2 people lying about their age. As far as Sinovac, Many Thai people are wise to this now and are refusing the China Vaccine.

Yes - totally corrupt within the "citizen" cohort and also inherently rascist in all other dimensions.

Why is any vaccination centre only for "citizens".  All human residents have the same health requirements based on age and underlying illness.

The vaccination programme is driven by fundemental political considerations. It rewards what they see as "their people".

There is a shortfall in vaccines, therefore vaccination will be decided by wealth, influence, connections and political demographics. In other words, if you are a comparatively well off office worker for a favoured company, living in an area which returns an appropriate MP then you get on the list. A peasant farmer or factory worker from an area which has a record of supporting the opposition - forget it.

As for foreigners, sorry guys, but if you were lucky it was window dressing to show how inclusive they were being, probably in the hope of poncing some more donated vaccines.
