The OP translation of the Thai Rath headline is off a bit. The quoted Thai article is about foreign laborers - think Burma, Cambodia and Laos and nothing to do with Farangs. Maybe some of the postors here can shed some light on how these laborers are discriminated against. Genuinely curious.

As a Thai, if I want to retire to the USA, I need to invest 16,000,000 baht. USA people coming here need to pay 1,900 baht a year and show they have enough funds to survive.

The words discrimination and racism are probably not in a Thai dictionary and if they are than probably all the 78.000 + Amphurs have their own interpretation, similar like each immigration office has his own rules.

 

Residency permits to buy sell a car/motorbike and a list that goes on....

It may have escaped your minuscule intellect that English is the most widely spoken language globally (Despite the delusions of some that it may be Thai) so if wanting to communicate with any foreigner in most other countries ,English is the default language of choice. Outside of Thailand the Thai language is rarely spoken.

Just as whenever I went to Ramathipodee they tried to insist that I should go up to the VIP third floor to pay 'normal' rates for foreigners (which our quotes revealed were double to three times the amount for having stents inserted).

Try surveying foreigners about the many ways they have been discriminated against - even those who pay significant income taxes.

1. higher cost for medical care

2. immigration delays (e.g. foreigners delayed trying to return to Thailand)

3. 2nd in line for vaccines - nothing available at government hospitals for foreigners

4. automatically guilty in any accident (deep pockets!)

5. higher prices for entrance fees at many venues (national parks, water parks, etc.)

6. foreigners not allowed to own land or a company (this is discrimination even if many countries do this)

7. golf courses and hotels with special rates only for Thai people

8. attaining permanent residency is extremely difficult

9. hefty insurance requirements exclusively for foreigners
