Thai government does not discriminate against foreigners, says minister

It may have escaped your minuscule intellect that English is the most widely spoken language globally (Despite the delusions of some that it may be Thai) so if wanting to communicate with any foreigner in most other countries ,English is the default language of choice. Outside of Thailand the Thai language is rarely spoken.

What a rude flame, there is certainly no need for that, and against forum rules.

Foreign visitors pay 10 times more than Thais to visit Sa Morakot (Emerald Pool), a popular attraction in Krabi.

I suppose The Right Honourable Minister and siblings enjoy exemption from paying entry fees.???

It's 180 baht for crying out loud. As stated earlier, foreigners pay 5,000 baht more than Australians for playing at Royal Melbourne gold course, and others.

Harsh but fair ? The preposterous nature of a suggestion of equivalence in incorporating Thai language in a US form as reciprocity for the requirement to include the world's most widely spoken language in a Thai form - particularly when the other main topic on the forum is the country’s desire to attract foreigners- is a breathtaking embarrassment that even others have pointed out .

Ignored.  Last comment you'll hear from me. If you can't play by the rules, go elsewhere.

I never suggested such equivalence in the slightest, I was pointing out that when you move to another country it is common decency to learn the language, and can be rather important at times, saving your life.

What a load of bol1ocks.

Ask the minister to look at the forms to be completed by the aliens if applying for a work permit, which features - among other goodies - that the undersigned confirms the agreement to hire the undersigned .........

The way the official as well as the other Thais are treating their neighbours from Burma/Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos is nothing short of disgusting and an embarrassment to this country.

I paid 20+ into social security and retired with 60. As I paid handsomely and according to the law, I enquired about some retiree pay-out and was told that Farang cannot as they are rich already.

While I luckily do not depend on this, I find it an utter disgrace by such lowlife civil servants against a law-abiding and contribution paying "dirty farang"!

Only once Thailand has hit rockbottom, only then some people will understand, that the planet is round and the most important, standing above-all, country is not existing and certainly not called Thailand!

Only in a Thai restaurant

I visited Chonburi hospital a week ago. They told me only Thais, no foreigners. At the school where I work, only the Thai teachers have been vaccinated, no foreigner teachers.

Let's be blunt. Most Asian countries are rabidly racist and xenophobic, anyone who has traveled and worked in these countries know that without any doubt.

But somehow, the narrative is that only one race is racist..... Imagine that.

Perhaps all countries should adapt the Japanese immigration policies?

That's sad. But I am Thai and not been vaccinated and my French neighbour, younger than me has, so has my German one, who is 61.

I retired last year(as a foreigner) aged 55 and got a full pension. I could have got 5k for life but chose the lump sum option as I wanted to buy Bitcoin.

There is no price difference based on one's race at international hospitals. If there was, it would be against the Constitution. Bar stool myth me thinks.

That was exactly your implication, notwithstanding your throwing the toys out of the pram which I suggest is out of embarrassment at the reaction from several other posters ( directly and via the emojis) . How do you think Thailand would fare with that arrogant insistence, particularly given the large additional degree of difficulty through having an alphabet peculiar only to itself? Very many are retirees (60+) for which that is not a realistic proposition.  Thailand is a country dependent on foreign trade and tourism and access to that is via English. You may have noticed the impact already felt through the curtailment of people here for whom the English language is the means of communication between themselves, even if not English. But it’s clear that kind of understanding is not conducive to your narrative so ' the last comment you will hear from me " is probably a welcome promise that I’d ask you to abide by.

Quite a clever reply don't you think? He only talks about migrant workers and makes a point of never mentioning the "Dirty Farang" that he detests so much. Go to Hua Hin and see the public notice declaring that vaccinations are NOT available to foreigners, only Thais. This was posted on the Royal Coastal Gazette but quickly moved for fairly obvious reasons. This idiot blames dirty foreigners for the virus saying that they have come to Thailand to escape their European winter. How did they do that exactly? What airline did they fly on? A seriously delusional man with extreme racist attitudes in charge. Scary. No mention of the stupid government decision to let everybody go everywhere at Songkran which triggered the situation Thailand now faces, or this his mates going to crowded nightclubs exclusively for the elite to whom the rules don't apply, and then the outbreak from that. Oh no, its those pesky Farang that are a net gain to the economy. The mind boggles.

If I had $1 U.S. for every report of an expat going to a Thai hospital trying to get a COVID shot and being told "sorry, cannot, Thais first,"  I'd be a VERY wealthy man!!

B.S. on this minister's public statement. The evidence is overwhelming to the contrary.

Just the other day, the MoPH issued a public report saying only about 3.5% of the estimated foreign nationals population had received any COVID vaccines.. and that compares to more than 15% of the Thai population thus far.

That pretty much looks like discrimination.

Yes, they said foreign nationals will receive COVID vaccinations under the government's program. But they never said exactly WHEN!

i am sure he would invite half a dozen unvaccinated brits round for tea and sticky buns while we all sing for his a jolly good fellow

One meal a Day !

It has been reported widely that this is not the case, and in fact it is One meal every 2 Days

Migrant workers are not being tested, and in fact the Health Workers have been barred from the Workers camps. ( read Prisons )

How many meals a day does the Minister have? Give him whatever the workers have, once a day. Why not? If it's good enough for them then surely it's good enough for him.

Meanwhile, Thaiger has a video on YouTube in which a foreigner-run charity explains how it is having to help the workers as there has been no help from the government.

Look again at Thai Public Hospitals and Government hospitals which many of us use.  Maybe private hospitals charge more, but they charge everyone that uses them the same prices for the most part.  I am sure you might be amazed at how it is different when you see the articles and links I included.  I know you were trying to make a point, but unfortunately you could be possibly incorrect.

https://pattayatoday.net/thai-hospitals-can-now-legally-charge-foreigners-higher-fees/

Thai public hospitals can now legally charge foreign nationals higher rates for services under new regulations published Friday. More than dual-pricing, the new regs set four tiers of rates that can be charged based on a patient’s visa status. Treatment costs are set at four levels. Thai nationals, foreigners from neighboring countries and working foreigners on non-immigrant visas. The fourth group consists of tourists and retirees.

Sorry, I have to disagree with the PM. I was able to get my Astro Zenica vaccination last Sunday at the Bang Sue Central Station. My wife accompanied me as my carer. All the old Thais with their relative as their carer were being passed through for vaccination. When we got to the blood testing station my wife, a Filipina, was told that she would not be vaccinated as she was not Thai. When asked why, they stated that there were only enough doses for Thais. This, when the Siam Pharma company is exporting millions of doses to other Asian countries (but not the Philippines!).

Shameful.

He had a valid point; he was handing out free masks at the start of a world pandemic and mostly farang wouldn't take them. Guess you have a selective memory.

Although generally farang are not liked, they are accepted and tolerated. Get over it.

Dear Thai apologist

ONE foreigner refused to take a mask from him and he went off into a rant. Guess you have a selective memory.

In Australia, 3 years ago, I was charged 5,000 baht more for a game of golf than my Australian friend. Royal Melbourne golf club.

I guess, I guess, you weren't a member of the club and your friend, who had paid a member's fee, was. And that member's fee would have been a great deal more than 5,000 baht. So, as a guest, you got off cheap.

Why should it be in English?  Thais in the US/UK have to learn English, the governments there don't have Thai on the registration forms.

Because only a tiny, tiny number in the world speak Thai - even though the PM told students they needn't learn English as one day the whole world would speak Thai. English is the world language, understood possibly by billions as they understand there needs to be a common language if people of different nations need to communicate with each other. Go to most countries in the world and they provide English on official forms - like Thailand does on immigration forms. Perhaps you'd like those to be all in Thai? After all, they are official forms similar to registration forms.

A former PM when touring the new airport questioned why so many signs in the international airport were in the international language of English. Nothing changes here, does it. I imagine you are Thai, as I doubt that any non-Thai would try to defend the indefensible, so very much a part of Thai culture. So you wouldn't understand the need to use English for foreign guests.

If the Labour Minister says that foreigners aren't discriminated against Thais:

  • does that mean that I'm as a business owner don't have to employ 4 Thai people (which I don't need in my particular business!) anymore? ????
  • It means that I as the business owner don't only have to pay insurance, but can also enjoy insurance benefits?
  • It means that I can also receive the government handouts for Covid?
  • I can work in every sector I want as long as I can prove international educational / training standards in said sector?
  • no double pricing anymore, particularly not in the health sector which was explicitly approved by the Thai government recently? ????

just WOW! ????

The only two things they care about involving foreigners is,  how much money they bring into the kingdom, how long can this migrant work before keeling over!

Ive never ever felt equal in Thailand, I'm a guest in their country and will never be treated or given equal opportunities as a Thai person.

Thailand's Labour Minister Suchart Chomklin has assured the press that the policies of Thai PM Prayuth Chan-ocha and his deputy DMP Prawit Wongsuwon do not discriminate against foreigners in any way.

The way the various vaccination registration processes were designed & put into action were not inclusive of foreigners. Lets not forget many Thais of all ages have been forgotten too or at best have waited weeks now for their appointment date & time.
