REUTERS/Soe Zeya Tun Thailand on Sunday reported 15,335 coronavirus cases, a daily record, bringing the country's cumulative cases to 497,302. Of the new cases, 641 were among prisoners. Thailand also reported 129 new deaths, bringing total fatalities to 4,059. Sunday's figures continues with the upward trajectory of new cases discovered in Thailand in recent weeks. On Saturday, the Department of Disease Control (DDC) said the number of new cases could double or even triple in the coming weeks. While cases in Bangkok have remained high, the number of new cases in the capital have slowed slightly. At the same time, Thailand is now seeing an increase in new cases in the provinces, the DDC said. The news comes after the Prime Minister's Office on Friday said that 13 million more vaccine doses will be administered throughout August - 8 million AstraZeneca doses and 5 million doses of the Sinovac vaccine. As of Friday, Thailand had administered approximately 15.4 million vaccine doses. *Reuters contributed to this report -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2021-07-25 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow ASEAN NOW on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates

Popular Post Bkk Brian
New highs again today, everyday seems to bring a record number of cases in one or the other category and today is no exception. Total of 15,335 new infections, with 641 of those from prison and 14,694 in the community. 129 covid deaths recorded. Rumours again about stricter measures due to the continued rising case load and stress on hospitals. The only positive figures from yesterday were Thailand’s road deaths which were only 10, due to people travelling less because of the measures in place. Rolling 7 day average which includes prison cases and bar chart of community cases from daily official announcements. https://ourworldindata.org/coronavirus/country/thailand 3

Popular Post Bkk Brian
Thai volunteers step up as Covid-19 Delta cases send hospitals to ‘point of collapse’ Thanapon Songput, a worker at the non-profit Mirror Foundation, has been arranging to provide oxygen tanks for Covid-19 patients around Thailand’s capital in the past month. The group allocates up to 90 tanks for about 15 patients a day, but the overwhelming demand has rendered its efforts almost futile. Thanapon said one patient died as she called to plead for help from the foundation. “We could never work fast enough. We asked her to wait, but it was too late,” he said. https://www.scmp.com/week-asia/health-environment/article/3142317/coronavirus-thai-volunteers-step-delta-cases-send 6 8

Danderman123
Let's not debate whether Thailand has a lockdown now, or had one last year. Better to think of it as a set of restrictions. Perhaps last year the restrictions were heavier. But please don't debate whether it's a lockdown or not. And, for God's sake, no debates about fractions. 2 1

Popular Post dinsdale
Well many on here have said 20,000 in August and it is definitely heading there. Now over 4000 deaths and tomorrow into the 500,000 club for total infections on the covid charts. Complete and utter mismanagement by a shambolic government of empty heads not fit for purpose. 22
Popular Post ThailandRyan
When you do not truly restrict travel and thus allow people to move about with impunity during the day, where they then head home to the provinces because there truly is no provincial travel restrictions other than words only without actions, would you have expected the cases to just stay in the Dark Red zones. On top of that allowing the construction workers to still travel to and from their camps to the works sites does not make sense when the normal person is told they must stay inside or better yet Ordered, to stay inside unless there is a necessity. 14

Popular Post wensiensheng
There can’t be any surprise in seeing these numbers surely? It’s a natural consequence of the deliberate strategy followed by the government. In that sense, it is not mismanagement, simply what they chose to do. And I would say, encouraged to do so by many of their advisors. mismanagement is to be found in the vaccine program. They have fallen well short of the numbers they targeted and promised. I fear for the numbers of daily deaths. That figure may rise fairly sharply over the next couple of weeks.

When I read your post and then think about what this Government thinks truly of the lower class of people it makes me angry knowing that it may be a form of allowed genocide. Just shocking to think like this, but if it was only to allow them to go home and live together because they could pool their resources then I could buy it, but then my mind turns to the darkness that I believe pervades the minds of those in power. It’s why, some 3/4 weeks ago I posted that for many it feels ok to say open up, or stay open, when deaths are 50 a day. But if going the open route, you then have to have the stomach to say that it’s still ok when deaths are 500 a day. every course of action has it pro’s and con’s and whichever you choose, you suffer the consequences of the con’s. Of course, it’s actually the people that suffer the consequences, not the decision makers. 10

Popular Post WaveHunter
These numbers are truly alarming, and you must consider this is only "confirmed" cases. It's anybody's guess what the actual numbers are considering that many infected people don't yet realize they are infected. The authorities need to pull out ALL of the stops now and quit pussy-footing around, simply blaming the rise in numbers to the Delta variant. There are a lot more causes than just the Delta variant: Authorities (politicians) need to put all resources into securing and distributing vaccines everywhere, not just Bangkok, and from all sources globally instead of continuing to favor home-based sources. All of this talk about lack of supply is hogwash. Worldwide, there are ample supplies available to those governments determined to get them. What's lacking here in Thailand are politicians with the resolve and the determination to cut all the red tape and political shenanigans that are currently being played out. There needs to be an acutal halt to intra-provincial travel that is actually enforced, even travel between Deep-Red zone provinces. The present travel restrictions and road checkpoints amount to nothing more than political bluffing. Anyone who has travelled from Pattaya to Bangkok since they started knows they are not being enforced at all. The public also needs to take this much more seriously, and the authorities need to make sure they do. There are entirely too many people walking around in public selfishly not practicing proper social distancing and mask wearing. Who would have imagined one year ago when we barely had any cases of Covid that we'd be where we are today?
