On the Channel 34 news they are now showing the Phetchabun Chicken factory and talking about over 3k cases there now.  They are building a large warehouse style building now to house those that have Covid.  Seems the factories are and have always been a Covid breeding factory.

People here often ask what the government could do to help stop the spread of the virus, here is an obvious tactic:

Require construction sites and factories to test new employees 24 hours before they start work.

Out of the more than 33,000 temples in #Thailand, the prime minister’s office has revealed that 593 of them have agreed to carry out free cremations of bodies that were infected with #COVID19. There are 62 temples in Bangkok, 124 in neighbouring provinces, and 407 elsewhere.

Enough for 2,000 deaths a day.

I shudder to ask this, but what stricter measures have they even got left in the bag at this point?

Measures taken have already turned what was a nice place into a dystopian hellhole of boredom. What is there even left to close?

Maybe close all 7-11s, no street food and no taxis or motorbikes?

They won't count. But, if your kit tests positive, you can then get a test at a lab or hospital or testing site.

Local district hospitals in Chiayaphum are doing them for free and it takes two hours for results.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the figures have already surpassed 20 million they the government haven't got a clue as the daily testing is inadequate as for bringing in more Chinese rubbish why do the government persist when they are fully aware that it’s not of high enough quality The PM and the rest of the clowns have sat on there backsides for well over a year being more interested in Submarines, Trains and raising taxes on woman’s tampons and I even forgot to mention the space project yet we see dead bodies on the streets of Bangkok due to there incompetence

If you assume the numbers are accurate, then around 1 in 140 Thais have been infected so far.

Which is still significantly less than 1 in 10 in the US or the UK.

This thinking is not exactly accurate because it takes in numbers from the UK and the USA from the beginning and we all know how poorly they managed the pandemic then. New daily infections per capita Thailand is on par with the USA as of now. USA has about 5 times the population and yesterday had 67.5k new infections. Yesterday Thailand had 14.5k. 14,500x5=72,500.

I seem to remember an outbreak here in Phuket caused by an open air beach club event, only a couple of months ago.

I am not throwing any opinion in here but yes, your memory is correct but most of the same group allegedly then continued the party in an indoor night club. So it was crowded outdoors and indoors!!

This Delta Variant aint hanging around, and with very few Vaccines, things will not get any better soon.

Will be interesting to see if this long weekend along with holiday Wednesday and possible day off Tuesday will show up over next few weeks with significant growth of cases in the proviences.

Not really a lockdown to inter provience travel.

These numbers are truly alarming, and you must consider this is only "confirmed" cases.  It's anybody's guess what the actual numbers are considering that many infected people don't yet realize they are infected.

The authorities need to pull out ALL of the stops now and quit pussy-footing around, simply blaming the rise in numbers to the Delta variant.  There are a lot more causes than just the Delta variant:

  • Authorities (politicians) need to put all resources into securing and distributing  vaccines everywhere, not just Bangkok, and from all sources globally instead of continuing to favor home-based sources.  All of this talk about lack of supply is hogwash.  Worldwide, there are ample supplies available to those governments determined to get them.  What's lacking here in Thailand are politicians with the resolve and the determination to cut all the red tape and political shenanigans that are currently being played out.
  • There needs to be an acutal halt to intra-provincial travel that is actually enforced, even travel between Deep-Red zone provinces.  The present travel restrictions and road checkpoints amount to nothing more than political bluffing.  Anyone who has travelled from Pattaya to Bangkok since they started knows they are not being enforced at all.
  • The public also needs to take this much more seriously, and the authorities need to make sure they do.  There are entirely too many people walking around in public selfishly not practicing proper social distancing and mask wearing.

Who would have imagined one year ago when we barely had any cases of Covid that we'd be where we are today?

Your last paragraph says it all one year ago ! Dare I say if they had ordered and payed for200 million vaccines a year ago and started vaccinating the public when they arrive in the Kingdom things would be very different but they the government chose not to that to me is down to utter incompetence they sat on there backsides thinking that they had got away with Covid but now the $#IT has hit the fan and it appears they have gone into hiding

Because there are no inter-provincial Travel restrictions, this long weekend may well bring a sharp increase in Infections to previously unscathed populations ( relatively speaking).

Some provinces have escaped the worse so far, but because there are few places left for the people to run too away from the Covid outbreak, these places for sure will see more influx from Tourists this weekend.

And with them will come the Covid
