I have been a member of this forum since 2008. I gained a lot of valuable insight from members of an apolitical, community spirited membership. In 2019 things changed, my pinned topic on pigs was 'restarted' in 2019 when everything was archived and the topic's 10 year history was wiped unless people were prepared to dig for it. That topic wasn't alone, overall the forum postings fell. Now change the name and broaden the horizon beyond Thailand and it has all but stopped.

Is this forum still worth our time to even look at, let alone contribute to?

What are the alternatives?

You have been around and contributed for years. Tell me what alternative you are looking for?

Job to say ,less farangs wanting to farm .as a good few are not spring chickens farming is not easy ,even if you have a tractor and can do it all from a tractor seat .

A lot of farangs married in to farming ,make a few posts then ,let's say it is not for them (no red plate pick up in the drive after just a few years ).?and disappear.

For the past few weeks I have been in a PM conversation with a member ,who with the problems is still in his home country ,he wishes to start a beef cattle farm in Thailand , and needs some advice one thing he did say was that he did not what to post here on the forum ,due to the amount of negative comments he will get ,

How to make a small fortune ,start with a large one .

Do not invest what you can not walk away from ,ect, ect .

The bar stool brigade is enough to put anyone off from posting on here .

How many more members do the same thing .

At this time how many members log on to Asen Now go straight to the Thailand News page ,to look at the latest situation ,as for a lot of members that will be their main form news about C19 in Thailand ,the Farming in Thailand forum is coming home well second .

I think it will still continue Farmerjo writing about his farm worts and all, yourself about soil ,and organic farming and Dr T his excellent  post about soil and organic farming.

I have got some shopping to do my camera  has packed up the jack plug for downloading and charging has is not working,so no photos ,my phone ,such a dinosaur will not download .

I want things to go back to the way they were. Not interested in other sites, I liked this one just the way it was. You hit the nail on the head in your OP.

Unfortunately, things have changed.

Thailand Core Content & Structure appears Unchanged.

Ignore non- thailand forums or anything of no interest.

Complaining about archiving 10 year OP, “broadening horizon” & site name change seems petty & silly.........

this forum appears operated as a for- profit business, simply being re- focused / expanded for increased advertising revenue, I suppose......

Its all been said and covered before ad nauseum. The collated news is useful and thats the only reason I still contribute but it's no big deal to me. If it went up in smoke tomorrow , no big deal. News is still out there , just not collated so conveniently.

As to the following:

  • I gained a lot of valuable insight from members of an apolitical, community spirited membership. In 2019 things changed, my pinned topic on pigs was 'restarted' in 2019 when everything was archived and the topic's 10 year history was wiped unless people were prepared to dig for it.

Archiving of topics is common for topics that have been around for years. For the most part, topics are archived as the topics have not had replies for awhile and maybe some of the members have moved along in which new replies to the topics are redundant as some of the members are not around to answer new questions.

Maybe a better place to address this situation would be in the Forum Support Desk.
