BANGKOK (NNT) - 237 food processing factories have been certified for their “COVID-19 Prevention Best Practice” compliance since September 2020, as part of the Ministry of Commerce’s measures to build the market’s confidence in the safety of Thai food exports, according to Malika Boonmeetrakool Mahasook, Advisor to the Minister of Commerce.

The certified factories are Chilled and Frozen Seafood factories, canned seafood factories and other exporters. Their certificates were issued by the Department of Fisheries.

“The COVID’s Delta variant outbreak around the world at the moment is causing the market to be more demanding for food products that are safe, of high quality and help address consumers with health related concerns. On this issue, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Jurin Laksanawisit had a vision in August of last year to prepare Thailand to meet such demands. He proposed the notion of a COVID-19 Prevention Best Practice Certificate for Thai food exporters in order to boost confidence in Thai food among global consumers. The proposal was agreed to and signed by four ministries - the Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Ministry of Public Health and the Ministry of the Interior,” said Mrs. Malika.

Thanks to a series of measures implemented by the Ministry of Commerce, Thailand was able to export food products, excluding sugar, worth more than 441,014 million baht between January and June 2021. The most exported products in the first half of the year were fresh, chilled, frozen and dried fruit and vegetables, cassava products, fresh, chilled and frozen, canned and processed seafood, frozen and processed chicken, and all kinds of beverage respectively.

Besides, Thailand reiterates the safety and high quality of Thai exported products by using the salesmanship role of Thai commercial ambassadors in many countries around the world, to promote Thai products under the Thailand Delivers with Safety campaign.

I have friends that work in food manufacturing and from what they tell me, Covid is absolutely ripping through the food factories like a hot knife through butter.

And it seems that freezing preserves the virus quite well.

The Food may well be Covid free.

But has it been been produced in a ethical way

Dept of Fisheries are keeping the Slave shop Canning Factories in Samut Sakhon open with the Staff in " Bubble and Seal " conditions.

Hardly Ethical me thinks.

What performance standard is the issue of the certificate based on?

If there's no standard with recognised, defining criteria then the whole thing is a nonsense.

Then you have to audit and assess those factories against the criteria in the standard.

As usual here it will be thumb up bum brain in neutral.
