BANGKOK (NNT) - The Faculty of Medicine at Chulalongkorn University has announced the closure of applications for volunteers to trial the ‘ChulaCov19’ vaccine on 7 August, three days before the due date, as they already have the required number of volunteers.

The Thai mRNA vaccine candidate volunteer registration opened on 3 August. Volunteers were required to be in the 56-75 years age range with no congenital diseases, have never been COVID-19 infected and not have received a COVID-19 vaccine.

The Chula Vaccine Research Centre (CVRC) conducted successful vaccination trials on monkeys and mice before the first phase of human trials began on 14 June. The second phase will start by the end of August.

The ChulaCov19 vaccine candidate has been developed by Thai researchers, with support from Prof Drew Weissman, a University of Pennsylvania professor, who invented the mRNA vaccine technology. The vaccine was developed by creating tiny parts of the coronavirus genetic material without using live virus.

Because of the effectiveness of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, people think mRNA vaccines are some kind of magic, but in reality the CureVac mRNA vaccine failed and there's every chance this Chula one will too.

so without Prof Weissman this would be going nowhere

I hope those that volunteered understand exactly what they are letting themselves in for. These steps normally take years to progress to human trials - this has been done in a matter of weeks

The elites tell us that they've decided that it doesn't matter anymore.  They mumble "benefits outweigh the risks" over and over which translated means "so sad, too bad, sucks to be you if you are injured or die."  But - volunteers do give informed consent which is better than the phase III live-trial recipients who are mandated to get the shot by their government or employers.  Then informed consent goes out the window riding on the back of coercion and duress.

And what is your point? That we should stop researching and developing medicines because there’s always a chance for failure?

No. How on earth did you come to that conclusion?

there was recently an excellent documentary on ch4 about the uk vaccine programme. when the call went out for trail volunteers there was a massive response, the trials went extremely successfully. this database will aslo be used for developing other vaccines as the uk seeks to continue to be at the forefront of medical and vaccine research. thailand could do worse than copy and learn from the uk model.

Theres also every chance it will work, especially with one of the pioneers of mrna vaccines prof Weisseman helping.
