I'll get straight in with "and you would like to know why exactly?" before the Usual Suspects do.

We are in Sam Khok.

Pro.  Within easy striking distance of BKK CBD but still sufficiently rural to be green.

Con. From us it's 4km to the nearest Seven.

Hat Yai

Not too small, not too big

Cosmopolitan city with a relaxed feel

Good food, plenty of variety, including some good western restaurants**

Lots of shops with western comforts available

Nightlife is good, plenty of live music venues**

Good connections to Bangkok, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur**

Only 45 minutes to the border if you need to escape

Songkhla and the beach is about 50 minutes away

Air quality is generally very good, and coastal breezes keep the temperature from extremes

Only negative is the rare terrorist attack.

(** fingers crossed that remains so post Covid)

.

Never been. I should go.

Never spent any great amount of time there, a lot smaller, a lot older, pleasant enough but I don't think I'd want to live there. Flight connections are more limited as well.

Close to islands as well.

Indeed, it's handy for the west coast too. We often go to Koh Lanta or resorts between Trang and Krabi. Phuket's a bit more of a chore to get to, though you can always fly, Bangkok Air fly Hat Yai to Phuket (or did pre Covid).

Anyone live in Chiang Rai??

No. No a bit too big. They have traffic lights there!????

Oops. Town or province. Always difficult here when the city has the same name as the province.
