Old trees removed from beach rd

Lots of furore in Thai social media about the removal of the Indian almond tree (Terminalia catappa) from the beach from North road to around Central soi 9 at the moment, reason from city hall is that the broad leaf falls on the walk way and creating work for sweepers and is a detriment to local vendors.

Only detriment to the umbrella chair concessionaire I see is that the shade created gives them less reason for the customers to rent chair.

These trees seems to be planted around the 70s, anyone love them?

a few threads on this already but i used to see the homeless who slept on the beach sweep up the leaves, gives them something productive to do, kinda their home

The shade trees are creating too much work for the sweepers?  What a crock.  The walkways need to be swept anyway.  The real work is maintaining all the palm trees--seems like work crews are out often chopping off and collecting all the dead fronds.  Likely a lucrative contract for someone.

They were a nice place to sit.... the abundant shade reduced the heat, and the brightness. You can imagine the sand around your umbrellas reaching foot burning temperatures easily now. Complaining about sweeping a few leaves up when every few weeks needing to sweep tons of sand back to where you want it is rubbish. Palm trees drop ruddy great leaves too.

Personally I'm quite anti tree. Drove into one once.. That wasn't a great night. Leaves on your car in autumn. They are noisey in the wind.  Not to mention that you can have a really picturesque view totally ruined by a few thoughtlessly placed trees.

Well I don't plan to drive on the beach, but if I do a tree to prevent me getting into the sea might be a good thing. Again I shall not be parking on the beach either, and the leaves blowing around are more pleasant than the plastic bags and Styrofoam food containers. The view, forward on a lounger is enhanced by a bit of green above, the view to the sea unimpeded, and even from a nearby condo, likely you see over them. Plus they clean the air.... quite a struggle on Beach Road.
