I think I know why Pfizer became available for foreigners

I doubt that the expiry date has a lot to do with you getting Pfizer I just think you were very lucky. 

 

Pfizer is the vaccine that everyone wants in Thailand.  Rightly or wrongly all other vaccines are rated lower than it with Sinovac the lowest.  All they had to do is ask any Thai if they wanted the jab a

Make sure she sits with your through every step, would not want you to get your name wrong when asked or get confused when nurse points in which direction to walk. May be even hold your hand while the administer the injection, never know those needles can hurt and someone needs to be there to wipe the tears and blow on the huge wound to make you feel better

Something has happened for Pfizer to be offered as an option for all foreigners, of any age. Indeed Thai also want that, but no reports of Thai being able to get it as freely.

 

Not only that, Pfizer second shot is 3 weeks, for AZ second shot have to wait longer i believe. yet there should be by far more AZ than Pfizer.

 

I can only see expiration date as a reason for very fast and efficient distribution. but thats just my opinion, right or wrong, i do not know

Why don't we stop second guessing or making conspiracy theories as to when the vaccine expiry date is and just say,

 

' A big thank you to the USA dor their generosity in supplying the vaccine ' and ' Thank you Thailand for administering it promptly '

 

That might even make the scientists, virologists, doctors, nurses, caregivers, logistics, governments involved to think they are appreciated and keep trying as hard as they are doing to make everyone safe?

 

Wouldn't that be novel here eh? Just to say Thank you!

Pfizer arrived ~ 30 July.

 

Imagine the logistics, management and thawing was done under some schedule? (Maybe not?)

 

So maybe your vaccine was thawed shortly after arrival in Thailand?

 

Hopefully your second dose comes soon?

 

There is an obvious shortage of AZ, not enough for second doses.

 

So if first dosers can be encouraged to take Pfizer, which may be on hand, then all the better.

Yes, Pfizer. I do hope they have reserved enough to give the second doses they have committed to. To be honest, there was not exactly a huge queue of foreigners after 10.00 am, although the Thai queue for Sinovac was quite large at that time

Did you read the news four days ago from the USA?

 

Pfizer has  now been given full FDA approval as a vaccine for all age groups,  not just for emergency use!

 

Hopefully, the fearful,. those sat on the fence will now get out and get vaccinated.

Hint give away, Bangkok Hospital is a private International Hospital, not only doctors speak English but nurses also.

 

Not only that, but registration was ONLY for BHP customers, so they would of had to visited hospital a few times and even security can speak some English

 

Somehow majority were and  aware of that

It will inspire confidence around the world in the Pfizer vaccine with those sat on the fence or fearful.

 

Also, the USA is a major donor to South East Asia with vaccine supplies and it will further boost confidence and the image of Pfizer as a life saving vaccine.

As I said, in the hall at Kalasin although the place wasn't ' mobbed ' thankfully, there were plenty of older Thais in the queue and a few overweight ones a bit younger that were all in the queue for Pfizer.

Personally,  I would be more worried about the storage conditions as -60 to -90 deg C is pretty cold, do hospitals generally have this type of storage available?  not sure, but its not usual for medicines as far as I am aware?

i think someone already explained, once its out of that freezing temp, it can still be used for a certain period, can find the explanation on page 2 or 3 i think.

someone has made a good post and i now think this is the reason for short expiry.

 

Once its out of freezing temp, shelve life becomes very short, you can find links and explanation on page 2 or 3 .

 

So if i had to guess, once it was received and opened, this is when  short expiry date came into play.

 

Either way worked out well for me and many others, but was strange that the most sought after vaccine became so readily available

Ok, I found it Pfizer vaccine can be stored in a "normal" freezer -15 to -15 deg C for up to 2 weeks.  so that should give hospitals enough time to use up their stock, what happens after 2 weeks I'm not sure, maybe someone with more insider knowledge can confirm?
