I will get a 60 day visa from the Thai embassy in the United States.

I want to stay for 90 days.

A British man told me if you have a 60 day visa, you can go to a immigration office and get another 30 day visa without having to leave Thailand.

Can I get the extra 30 day visa from immigation or do I have to make a border run?

When I apply for my 60 day visa, can I show the Thai embassy an airline ticket with a 90 day return date or do I have to purchase a ticket with a 60 day return date and change the return date (at an extra charge) while I am in Thailand?

I had no problem getting my last 60 day visa and do not expect any problems getting another visa. I was in Thailand Jan. 25 - Mar. 21 and want to stay Sep. 14 - Dec. 11.

You obtain the 30 day extension from an Immigration office by filling out a TM.7 form (request) and a current photo and paying 1,900 baht. Believe you will need passport/arrival card copies also.

This is a routine procedure so tourist visas are expected to be used for up to 90 day stay - there should be no problem with airline ticket (and if you apply in your home country often it is not even asked for).

You don't have to show a plane ticket for a tourist visa.

Google thai consulates in the US. Printout the visa application and instructions. Follow the instructions and you get a visa. The visa is valid for 90 days before you have to use it. It can all be done via mail or fedex.
