Manager reported that Thailand's education minister Trainuch Thienthong revealed that 68 schools were onboard to begin what she called a hybrid trial - one that includes both online and in person teaching.

It's being called SSS - Sandbox Safety Zone in School.

The plan requires all teachers, all administrative staff and all over 12s to have been vaccinated against Covid-19.

She said that the safety of students was her priority in this plan.

Manager gave no details of when it would start or how they were going to accomplish 100% vaccination among secondary school pupils in the schools that are part of the trial.

Missing from that report is that this current hybrid model is only for Thai boarding schools.

"Reopened schools must be boarding schools

The learning must be voluntary

The school’s readiness must be in line with health measures"

Also comes at a time when the biggest school outbreak ever has just occurred in a Thai boarding school in Nong Khai.

How boarding schools will keep the necessary health checks is a concern, last I heard about Thai boarding schools is when 18 female students died in a fire 3 or 4 years ago.

I'm all for opening schools as soon as vaccination levels are up in Provinces such as Phuket.

Not sure if it is the same, but here in Phuket we got a sandbox schooling going on also.

Basically all classes have to have less than 25 students and different years are kept apart from each other (not at the same time in the canteen). They do a saliva test for everyone every 2 weeks and if nobody has covid school will continue for another 2 weeks. If someone tests positive they move to online learning for 2 weeks (only for the class where someone tested positive).

We are just happy the kids can go back to school again. And hopefully nobody tests positive next round of testing as online learning is useless for your children.
