Thailand on Friday ( October 8 ) reported 11,140 new COVID-19 cases, 9,933 recoveries and 116 additional deaths over the past 24 hours.

◼︎ 9,933 recoveries

◼︎ 11,068 new infections

◼︎ 72 prison / prison infections

▶︎ Total infections since April 1: 1,660,574

▶︎ Total recoveries since since April 1: 1,534,364

Friday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 1,689,437 with 17,534 deaths.

After months of regulatory red-tape tying up vaccines in Thailand being accepted as “fully vaccinated” in the UK, the rules are finally changing as of Monday, October 11th.

Previously, if one was vaccinated with AstraZeneca or other major brands in Thailand, they would not be considered “fully vaccinated” in the UK upon return, leading to confusion and anger on social media.

However, as of today, October 8th, 2021, that guidance has changed and will become effective on Monday, October 11th, 2021.

Opinion: Easing lockdown imposes threat to those living with compromised immunity

Thailand is putting up its mark as among the very few countries in the world that has not been looking at the immunosuppressive patients, a group of patients who are among the most vulnerable among the population.

The immunosuppressive patients are patients who are taking immune suppressing medication, and these could be due to various factors ranging from transplant of an organ to leukemia and other autoimmune diseases. (read more here)

These patients, who have low immunity due to their daily intake of immune suppressing medications have weakened immunity and are prone to most common bacterial and viral infections, let alone SAR-COV2.

The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) is concerned that tourists may not be interested in Thailand if the country takes too long to open its doors.

FTI chairman Suphan Mongkolsuthee said it is safe for Thailand to open since 40 to 50 per cent of its population has been vaccinated.

Also, he said, the number of daily cases has dropped, and Thailand has the facilities to treat Covid-19 patients. However, he said, the authorities should speed up the vaccination rate in the business sector before reopening the country.

Tourists will not come, even if the red tape is removed.

Only those with connections in the country.

Look at Spain and Greece, fully opened in the summer, still under expected/desired numbers.

And these are EU countries, which meant treatment for Covid would have been free of charge, even quarantine.

There is still fear about travelling, especially far distances.

1.65 million with a booster already while more than 50% of the population does not have 1 jab yet.  Really makes me wonder who besides factory workers, government folks and medical workers need to have a booster at this point, well besides a large contingent on Phuket who were double jabbed with sinovac.

I looked at the Chantaburi cases and realized that they had almost doubled in one day.  With where the cases supposedly stemmed from it makes complete sense as to why the Governor banned all alcohol circa last years National order. Starting to make the International rounds as it is in the WorldNews now.  Waiting on the Thai digital media folks to start scrubbing it from the news to keep the word from reaching outward and affecting possible tourism.

Thai Civil Court rejects plea to suspend public gathering restrictions

The court said that COVID-19 infections are still spreading, despite the restrictions issued by the prime minister by virtue of the Emergency Decree and intended limit further impacts on the country’s economy.

Responding to the claim by the petitioners that there is no solid evidence to prove that public gatherings cause the spread of the disease, the court said that the gatherings of many people for any reason risk the spread of the disease.

If they had been succesful with their plea it would have made the Chantaburi Governors Alcohol Ban order a moot point, but the plea was mooted.

I think it’s mandatory mask wearing and PCR tests rather than fear of the virus that’s deterring most people. If those become a permanent part of travel, then travel’s over for me for life, to Thailand or anywhere else.

I can live with mask wearing, to some extent.

For me is the prospect of being sent to hospitel/hospital in case of testing positive/ near contact.

Perhaps, at my expense.

And, imagine a hugely congested healthcare thai system. You could end up on a stretch waiting for an hospital bed.
