Ratchaburi police last night received notice of a large fire at the Home Plus building supplies store on Huay Chinsee - Thung Luang Road in Muang district of the central Thai province.

Thirty fire engines attended the blaze.

A warehouse to the rear of the shop was ablaze. It was fuelled by items like thinner, furniture and building supplies that are highly combustible.

It took three hours to bring the fire under control with water and foam. Firefighters were hampered by walls on the side of the depot needing to attack the blaze via the front and back, reported Daily News.

Residents in the area fled their homes in fear of their lives but there were no injuries or deaths reported.

A manager at the store said that the depot was empty but that staff who lived next to it outside the walls alerted the authorities to the conflagration.

The local police chief cordoned off the area ahead of a forensic investigation today and would not comment on the financial loss.
