PHETCHABURI, Nov 10 (TNA) – The Royal Irrigation Department warns that a deluge from the Phet dam will reach the heart of Phetchaburi province at 4pm today.

The department ordered all its branches in Phetchaburi to speed up drainage from the Phetchaburi River and low-lying areas into the sea to reduce flood impacts.

Prapit Chanma, director-general of the department, said the discharge rate at the Phet dam was raised above 150 cubic meters per second because of heavy rains and consequently the Phetchaburi River would overflow into low-lying areas. The deluge would reach Phetchaburi municipality at about 4pm today, he said.

Something else for the locals to worry about.

The problem is being exacerbated by water being released at the same time from the Mae Prachan Dam, which feeds into the Phetchaburi river. I thought that this year they had finally realised that the rainy season now extends into November and had left room in the reservoirs for a late inundation as was experienced on Monday night, but it seems that was not the case. There is no real excuse for man-made flooding. Fortunately we just experience water flowing thtrough the end of our land, but others whose houses are on the riverside are not so lucky.
